M1cha3la
Hey, So we are coming to Perth in September :jiggy:as I am sure some of you from PIO know I am trying to figure out transport. We are going to hire a car but we land at stupid o'clock so the car hire places are not open (according to online), from what I can find anyway. We are going to have to book in a hotel for that night as our apartment wont check us in at that time. I don't like the look or price of the hotels near the airport, there is nothing on site anyway, so I am thinking of booking the Ambassador Hotel on Adelaide Terrace as its near our apartment (not walkable though, but close for a cheap taxi i hope) and Perth Airport offers that shuttle bus ($15) each. Does that sound like a good plan? Has anyone used the shuttle? Part of me wants to book a taxi as I will not be in the mood at stupid o'clock, but I guess a taxi will cost a bomb at stupid o'clock? Next step would be to find car hire in the city centre then, does that cost more than airport hire? I have looked and am looking on the internet, but as ever your advise would be appreciated

M1cha3la
Thanks Helen We have booked through airbnb. Its only a reccie/validation trip for us this time, but we will definitely use it when we move and need a rental. Good luck for your move, how exciting Xx
Plimthing
welcome to Perth airport, the worlds worst for public transport links to the city! The car hire desk will be open, well Hertz will be, so i'm sure others will be too. There are many International Long Haul flights arriving between midnight and 2am so you will be in a nice Queue to pick up your car.
Lou8670
Try Bayswater car rental. They don't rip you off with the excess/damage waiver unlike those based at the airport.
bugsyburrell
Hertz have looked after us quite well for the last few months now but like Lou said you do get a ridiculous excess of $4,500 unless you pay an additional $35 to reduce it to $550. Also, when we first landed we received a 25% discount with hertz just for showing our boarding pass, then they kindly upgraded us to a BMW X5:)
<Dan>
Ive landed twice at 1;10am and got a car from Hertz. We also found that you can take out hire car insurance from here in the UK which covers you when you hire a car. Saves buying the expensive cover from the hire car company as they always try and up sell when you get there!
bottlesofbecks
A couple of people who came to visit used Airbnb for cheap accommodation.

Druid
Thanks everyone, thats great to know I thought it seemed crazy that car hire places would not be open, but all but 1 website said hours were around 6am to midnight which got me worried.. But if they are open then we will just grab a car and go Thrifty car hire are on Adelaide Tce, we used them and found them cheaper than most, if you arrange to pick up your hire car at the airport you pay a premium, there are lots of cheaper good hotels on Great Eastern highway, not far from the airport and most of them run shuttle busses, the formule 1 now the Ibis is fairly new and has good reviews. nikkiwd
we arrived at midnight and stayed at the 'airport apartments by verandah' which were lovely, they have a bus that comes to collect you from the airport if you give them a ring once through customs and reception is open 24hrs. We then collected our hire car from Bayswater car hire the next morning, the guy from the apartment gave hubby a lift along to get it too. We then drove up north to our rental, easy as! Guest keishahogson
There is always a car hire at the airport or a shuttle service and you can just ask the airport information desk regarding this. But, usually, before you travel, you must have to book a shuttle service. Thanks, Edited August 17, 2014 by portlaunay business link
