7cdb
no worries and thank you Hey Lee. Depending on your age and the visa you are looking at will depend on how many points you may require for your visa I have to do ielts and a skills assessment for refrigeration mechanic/ac man (same thing and same skills list coding) but this is due to me being an old git at 42. My skills assessment has consisted on the first part constructing the proof/evidence of my knowledge,ie actual qualifications and references from old employers and customers. I run a Ltd company so I have had to prove that we have been solvent. No bad debts etc and have had to get trade and customer references by the bucket load as "evidence". You will need good work references and all your certificates. Then when you have passed stage 1 of vetesses you will be invited down to London for a practical exam. So a few hoops to jump through, but you will get there in the end. Then off we go to OZ and start all over again! Good luck with it.
JasonM
What you need to do is carry out a tradeset assessment and it will ask what you can show evidance for and this will give you an idea of any additional training. I have 24 years in the job but couldnt find my 3rd year C&G certificate and as it was so long ago the college or C&G where like a chocolate teapot, so i had to carry out an electrical course. If you are worried out your skills a quick no obligation chat with Go Matilda may help. We are using them and they have been cracking so far with no issues and helpful all the way. (anyone from Go Matilida reading this i accept discounts for promotion
7cdb
Pretty much what JasonM has written, although with only 24 years in the job and a mere 7 running his own he won't know that much......
lee916
thanks guys, and 7cdb im 30 but never been college so got no qualifications apart from the j11 f-gas but I gave a solicitors a ring yesterday so im going to let them deal with it all she seems to think she will get me there so fingers crossed, I was just wondering what you have to actually do on the assessment as in like do you put in a split or just show bits like gassing up, reclaiming, vacing out? Lee I would have a chat with a registered agent first, I can't see what a solicitor would know about the visa system and ensuring you get the right visa as ideally you want to gown the permanent visa route and if possible avoid the temp visa route. you do use a solicitor but that is to countersigned your documents for Vettassess. regarding the practical look at my thread Vettassess for refrigeration and air conditioning as I have found a post on another forum but it is a few years old Failing that 7cdb is doing his practical at the end of June. You may need to do the Ielts for extra points so as I have said before speak with a registered agent for some advise as they do this all the time. Check the treads for agents people have recommended. At the end of the day it is all your choice and we can only advise. best of luck which ever route you go down
