Raychelsb
Hi all the plan for us is that my husband will got out first to secure work before I hand my notice in and follow a few months later. I will be doing all the sorting out from this end on notifying every man and his dog of our emigration but I am not sure what happens when you don't have an address to give in Aus. For example banks and my student loan company etc. can any of you guys advise? Thanks!

Raychelsb
Hahaha! There's a chance we could be back and then I'd be screwed lol! It's mainly for our mortgage company who we will be staying with as we will rent our house out. but I like your advice!

portlaunay
Seriously? No, not really. For many the journey to get here is long and arduous. For us it happened over just a few months, our visas being granted in just 48 hours and Mrs p needing to start her job pretty much immediately. This left me and the kids in the UK to close up our life there in just a couple of months and as a result some of my 'admin' was missed or incomplete. There were outstanding invoices for Mrs p's business, contracts with suppliers, accounts that were dormant that sort of thing that were genuinely overlooked, mainly because she was focussing on a new life in Oz and I had very little to do with her company. We'd be sitting in the evening and Mrs p would be checking email and suddenly say, "Oh my god, we forgot to pay Susan!" We kept a small slush fund in a UK account and so paying was easier than having to transfer money around. I don't know what the laws are about pursuing civil cases across Australian borders but seriously, do you really want to be looking over your shoulder worrying about when stuff like that might catch up with you? What I do know is that banks will pursue you to the ends of time for a few bucks.
Give me a break!
So you still owe people or did you pay them all? Because I'm sorry but "That's what we did it was awesome " Doesnt sound like it. All those people your wife didn't pay back before you buggered off to Australia could they afford to lose the money? Or don't they count? It was meant in a lighthearted manner, a response to 7cdb in a similar manner to the way they had posted, which is why I quoted them and added the wink at the end. I clarified my response, with advice for the OP. I seem to have hit a raw nerve with you and if my joke was in poor taste or offensive I apologise. Raychel, I hope you get a sensible answer as typically of late, people's threads seem to be getting hijacked by a certain few. Perhaps you could use your temporary address and then just inform them once you've a new permanent address?? J x
Raychelsb
Ok so just to be clear I will definitely be paying my debts from aus from my uk bank account, I'm not one to run from what ive signed up to. I took the run and jump comments as light hearted jokes and just hope my post will he back to some advice an friendly banter.

wild rose
Do you have a family member in the Uk who's address you could use until you secure something a little more permanent over there? They could then either open any mail and scan/email it over, or forward it on to you xx
ali
My apologies to the OP for posting this on your thread .. but moderator time. I've deleted a few posts many of which were in response to a post directed at a member - to let them remain when the offending post had been removed not only would make them look out of context but had no relevance to the question posed by the OP. Now, I've always prided myself that PP is a pleasant place were people can have opposing views and not resort to insults. Someone mentioned that threads are getting high-jacked so please if you see that happening, use the report button to alert us and we can review it and deal with it as necessary. I believe our mod team are helpful and try their best to keep the site a nice place to visit, however, if you do have an issue then you can contact admin. So, if you think a post breaks our forum guidelines/rules - please report it. Cheers Ali x
Give me a break!
OK I've got a case of mistaken identity I think. I am owed money by someone who did a bunk, actually a huge amount of money and it meant when we started here we had to do it with the very bear minimum and we struggled so yes those comments I did take seriously . I thought your wife Port was someone who was rather rude to me a while back and I do apologize. I'm not sure about highjacking threads have I done that? I hope not as I genuinly would rather help, this site has moved on quickly since I joined and you've all got to onow eachother, and I seem to have missed things. No offense meant to anyone and my comments were not directed at the OP. lozzachino
Wow what have i missed! we use a relative's address for our correspondence with the bank and hmrc. We have lived in three houses so far in the last year in australia so keeping track of all that would be a nightmare.

Hi Raychel We left the our old house end of January and moved into a temporary home on Jersey, flew to the UK beginning of April then a few holidays finally arriving in Perth mid May. We haven't changed our addresses as we don't yet have a permanent address in Australia and it would be mad to keep changing it! Plus we didn't have an address at all for a month. Like you we are not doing a bunk, far from it. What we have done is redirected all our mail to my parents address and where possible we have arranged for statements and invoices/bills to be sent by email. That way we can still pay off our credit card bills we used during our holiday We are using the same bank for our Australian accounts so that's probably the only thing we've changed the address for to our temporary address. The rest wills be done when we have a home to call our own. I've heard of some people ordering new stuff to be delivered to Southampton to be loaded directly onto their container with the intention of not paying which is irresponsible and of course fraudulent. I hope this helps. Lou
Walkabout
Hi, Change as much as you can to paperless statements / bills so that you can get it through email instead. We also used my parents address for a mail re-direct for 6 months and to give to the electricity company for a final bill (although not sure I would recommend that as the electricity company have been a nightmare!) . We spoke to our mortgage company and they were fine with it, to be honest they very rarely wrote to us anyway and we have now informed them of our aus address so all good there. Banks we stopped all paper statements so received very little from them (except the obligatory promotional stuff!) and again now we have an address we have told them of the change. I hope that helps - most places we 'left' until we had an address to tell them (probably took us 4 or 5 months by the time we had got somewhere and remembered to write to everyone) if you are particularly concerned about a particular thing, I would get in touch with them and provide them with an email address, they may not use it (some companies are really frustrating about such things) but at least you can prove you have tried to maintain contact with them, and then you can give them your address once you have it. Good luck!
verystormy
We came on 457 visas and changed the forwarding address to the company address then changed it again once settled.
