Marksman
Wasn't too sure where to ask this question, hope here is ok. We should get our cars in about 2-3 weeks. One of them has a vehicle tracker installed and is (apparently) compatible with the Austarlian GPS network. I have been looking online to see if anyone can just fit a new SIM card and subscribe but having a lot of difficulty in getting a straight answer. Most are trying to re sell a complete system install. Has anybody here had any experience in re subscribing an existing vehicle tracking system at all? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark.
verystormy
I don't think my 11 year old Hyundai Getz is ever likely to need one. But this is a bump.
Plimthing
Not sure how the GPS can work in both UK and OZ as the satelites they use are stationary above the Earth ( ie visible to UK) and would need to use a whole lot (between 2 and 8 ) of new satelites whilst over here (visible to oz/south east asia). All GPS satelites are owned by US military and each section of the world is governed (from a satelite ownership point of view not the US governs the world ) by a different section of US miltary and the signals sent/received by satelites are coded different to stop one computer hacker getting access to all of them should he be succesful getting into one. Unless of course the company you bought it from has an arrangement to use southern hemisphere satelites. If that company (or manufacturer ) will not help you i can only guess that any companies over here would try and flannel you with codswhallop to get you to buy a complete new system. Have you tried manufacturer as opposed to shop you bought it from?
Marksman
We bought it from Cobra track and it is the exact same model that is installed as standard in all Porsche cars world wide. They assured us that it will work with the same frequencies just as our UK mobile phones work with the same frequencies in Oz. It will be the SIM that will be locked to the localised frequency. They don't have an Australian office either, that I can find.
