DangerousDave
Hello PP I thought I’d say hello again as I have not been on here for a couple of months. Things are moving on with our move to Perth. I’ve applied for a child visa for our baby and I’m taking voluntary redundancy at work which will pay for a few things. I’m going to stay at home with the kids and send the wife out to work LOL. We are bringing the move forward to Easter 2015. It’s good to see a few people have made the move since my last visit to the forum. I will be watching with interest. I’ll no doubt have plenty of questions. First question. Has anyone applied for a child 101 visa recently? Does anyone know how long it takes to get a case officer? I applied 4 weeks ago and they have taken payment but have not had any acknowledgement yet. Our visa's were done online but this one had to be paper based and done by Australia House in London. I’m sure it is all in hand, it takes 9 months to get granted anyway. Just being a bit impatient and worried it’s lost on someone’s desk! Anyway, speak to you all soon. Thanks Dave
cutchibear
Hi Dave! Welcome back to PP! My family are in a very similar situation to you - PR visa granted Jun 12, activated & reccie trip Dec 12, then baby boy came along Sep 13! We are currently looking at getting his visa sorted - just noticed you are doing a paper application....is there a reason why it can't be done online as this is what we intended doing? Did you go through a visa agent or have you done it yourself? Sorry I can't answer your questions....just picking your brains

Did you go through a visa agent or have you done it yourself? Sorry I can't answer your questions....just picking your brains Hi cutchibear, I assumed I could apply online at immi.gov.au like the last time but there does not seem to be an option for a child visa. The immi website says you have to apply at your local embassy. http://www.uk.embassy.gov.au/lhlh/immi_child.html This link is really useful. I’ve not used an agent for either visa. The child one seems fairly straight forward as long as there are no medical issues and mum and dad have a clean police record. Apparently police checks and medicals are requested quite early on in the application instead of at the end like before which means the validation window will be shorter. We hope to get the visa by Feb and then move in April. One thing I did find weird was I had to include a letter from my wife to give permission for my son to emigrate even though she is coming too! I suppose it is there to cover more complicated cases than ours. Just ask if you have any other questions. Cheers Dave
cutchibear
Cheers Dave..really useful. Will forward the link to my husband as he has dealt with all the visa process....he is no doubt familiar with that site! I can understand the babies having medicals...but police checks?!! Perhaps they'll have a record for causing sleep deprivation! We are currently working towards moving next July...so want to get the child visa sorted soon. Our biggest hurdle is our house sale! DangerousDave
That would be funny if a baby needed a police check. Only the parents need to unless you've had one in the last 12 months. We are about to start the fun process of selling our house too. One minute I'm worried about it selling too quickly meaning we'll have to move into a rental for a while and then I panic it won't sell at all. As Harry Hill would say 'there's only one way to find out'
cutchibear
Yes, the same thought goes through our minds re house sale! Although I think at least once it is sold, it's the one major obstacle out of the way, we can always stop with family! Fingers crossed for us all! cutchibear
Hi @DangerousDave how's things moving along? We are just looking at the child visa application and wondered whether you completed the statuary declaration form OR a form 1229 (consent form to grant an Australian visa....)?? See what you mean re letter by your wife...guessing ill have to do the same! We
DangerousDave
Hi @cutchibear We got a case officer a couple of months ago. He only requested a medical and police check so I presume the letter we included was ok. We've not had any request for a form 1229. The waiting time is 9 months as advised on embassy website. All the best with yours. Cheers Dave

cutchibear
Really @DyLeB? I wonder why so long all of a sudden, we were initially told 3 months! Didn't take us that long to get our own
DyLeB
Really @DyLeB? I wonder why so long all of a sudden, we were initially told 3 months! Didn't take us that long to get our own It recently increased about 2 wks ago, from about 7-9 months, never been 3 months although it does say that on the website. Time frame is due to the planning levels of these visas per year only so many can be granted. We are in same situation not ready to lodge our child visa yet still have 2 years left in our pr still deciding if we're are going to move or not. Our pr took 6 wks to grant from lodgement. cutchibear
Hi @DyLeB perhaps that's where we saw the 3 month thing - on the website. We may be hanging on the wire a little then as we were hoping to make the move next summer. We are a bit like you - we have been contemplating the move for a while now and keep changing our mind but we know we will only regret it in years to come if we don't give it a go. So we said if we do decide do apply for our little boy's visa then that is it, decision made, we are going!
