MrsM
Maybe getting ahead of myself here... Trying to sort out a timeframe as I have a little ocd with planning things! So we sent our visa app at the start of the week. It could take 8-9 months to come through if granted (which I cant see why it wouldnt be?) which means Feb/March 15. Problem is that our police checks are dated 24th of April - so we'd maybe have about 3/4 weeks to validate the visa if all goes well timewise. I would like to plan ahead & book flights for the 20th of April. If it buggers up then my MIL lives there so I'd change flight dates and have a holiday! Storage wise, I'd loose money if I cancelled. We are taking our cat, so I'd loose so much of that also. My husband thinks we should wait until we have the visa, but I just cant even begin to think of the stress it would create trying to sort all 4 of us out in just a couple of weeks. He doesnt realise the amount of things that need to be sorted first! Any ideas/advice would be great!
fifi69
Understand what your saying, not got OCD but do like to be neat and punctual. but please don't start trying to jump ahead of yourself. we had 4 weeks notice before we came to Oz. it all got done. I plan to return to the UK for my mums bthday next may. To me that means looking for flights after Xmas this year. dont stress....it really isn't that difficult. MrsM
Yeah I understand completely. Just because flying the cat out means I need to fix things in advance of four weeks due to blood tests etc. I just cant do one thing but not another lol. If it was a case of just me & my husband, then I'd have no problem. Its just having both the girls & the cat. Lol x
jac2011
I haven't even applied for my visa yet and cant till next year but I am desperate to prebook some accommodation etc... However, I know that its pointless. I went on Skyscanner looking at last minute flights (ie in a week) and the prices appeared cheaper than booking 11 months in advance. I went on airbnb to look at short term accommodation and that seemed fine too. I would recommend trying to go over when there are no Oz school holidays as that seems to increase things. I know its hard, but deep down I know I should wait. I want to book things now, or in a few months but I know this would be silly. Good luck with your move and I hope you hear something soon. steven_gers
The main problem is that they are "estimated processing times" so you might get the visa sooner but equally you could receive the visa after March. All our things have been packed and are in storage untill I receive my visa and then we will give the go ahead to ship them, I got 8 weeks free storage and then £17 a week to store so not deadly. Cant help with info about the Cat other than have you actually asked the cat if it wants to go and live in Oz? If you are getting itchy feet just now you are in for a very long 9months! Its becomes obsessive and looking on forums researching takes hours ha ha good luck.
MrsM
I wouldn't prebook accommodation purely because we are unsure if we are staying at MIL's to start or holiday let. If they took longer then I'm sure I'd lose out, but the storage seems like a good option! Haha the cat is as impatient as me to go Steven!! Haha. He's chuffed we are paying the amount we are for him! Lol. All jokes aside, he gets his check up on Tuesday - need to rule out if he has cancer or not first. Sadly all white cats and the sun are not best friends... So plenty of suncream for him! Poor bugger! I hate waiting. Pregnancy twice killed me with being so impatient, and this visa is the same amount of time. Oh dear!
DyLeB
I would def wait - partner processing times can change when the new aus financial year starting 1 July, a few years ago partner visas were taking around 6-7 months, after 1 July suddenly changed to 9. ali
Immigration is so uncertain, they change the goal posts and processing times all the time. Look at the aged parent visa- only a few weeks notice of changes. I'm a planner but I waited until I got the email - doesn't prevent you from planning and being ready to sort as soon as you get the email.
