no1mum
Hi we have been here approx. 3 months and was in rented for first 2 and now own. Regarding bills, our rental included everything except gas/electric and food so we were a bit vague when bough. First food shops a little pricey as you have to purchase everything again, eg: herbs, gravy, condiments, and we purchased just a few and added things every week. Now food shop for 3 adults is approx. $200 a week, which is about double what I would spend in UK. Bills are generally cheaper than what we paid in UK, but not much cheaper. Generally petrol is cheaper and wages higher so all equals out. Hope this helps. Hi can anyone give me a rough idea on monthly bills, Im looking at a rental of $420/450 4x2x2 in the Halls Head area. Plimthing
no council tax if renting. my elec was $180 (2mths) gas $147 (2mths) home phone/internet/foxtel sports $145 (mth) Water was $200 (3mths) i use paya s you go mobile $30 (mth). Food varies but you will find it more expensive here for sure, easily spend over $150 in woolworths without trying. Car tax ( rego ) i think also depends on the car you have, we have two small cars (focus and Fiesta) and pay around $200 for 6mths and about 180 for my old beetle. This rego also includes third party insurance but i would advise you get additional cover like you have in UK, but its cheaper than UK. Petrol is around $1.40 a litre for low grade petrol $1.60 for premium, diesel the same. Beer is upwards of $8 per pint or you can get a case of half decent stuff for $45 (24cans/bottles) to drink at home/garden, if you like wine you can get box's of stuff with the crushers corn plasters in for $15 or you could buy bottles for over $150 down to choice again. Im further south than the areas you state but think my figures are good ball park figures. You can spend less or more depending on taste! - See more at: http://www.perthpoms.com/forum/money-finance/15755-monthly-bills.html#post103692

odies
I am sure Elfie will put me right but here goes. Everyone has retic to water lawns, grass flowers etc. you are allowed it to come on twice a week at certain times. It is really needed esp.in summer. The bore way goes underground however is an awful colour and I have seen cars damaged by it and when you drive around you will see walls coloured by it. Personally stick to your main water system
Nic964
Heres a slightly different comparison. There's two of us, we originally rented down in Medina last year. It does depend greatly on your lifestlyle. We initially went for the low cost approach. Rates - None as your house is rented Water - Shower, washing machine etc. Didnt have any watering system in the garden, just used the hose occassionally - $80 for 2 months Elec - cooking and lighting etc. No Aircon and no heating - $100 for 2 months. I've seen others spend $200/month if they use aircon etc, so its up to you. No TV licence required. Just got $30 freeview box and watched normal TV. Didnt go for Foxtel, which is currently $50/month Phone. Bring your own handset - $40/month each, with loads of credit, enough to call back to the UK for an hour a week. Internet, went with a simple portable wifi unit that uses the mobile phone network - $20/month, for general use, facebook etc. Food you can easily spend $100's per month. Just be careful. use places like spudshed. Cars. Ours were $2k each to buy (perfectly good cars, Falcon and Mazda UTE). Rego around $500/year including 3rd party insurance. If you drink beer, its really expensive ($40/case), but wine is really cheap $3/bottle for something drinkable. Cigarettes $20/20 Eating out you can easily spend $50 each, but if your careful, then there's plenty around $20, for say really fresh seafood. Overall, we actually find it cheaper here. An evening walk along the seafront, is a great alternative to eating out / drinking. Best of luck Nick

Do you switch it on and off from somewhere in the garage/house. Cheers
Nikkis2000
Thanks Odies but I didn't think everyone had it, I also read on one thread a couple months back that some guy switched it off from going on everyday as his water bill was too high. Do you switch it on and off from somewhere in the garage/house.Cheers Ours has a controller on the side of the house next to the electric meter. You are right though that not everyone has it. It depends on whether people have paid to have it installed. You have set watering days that you can use it on, worked out using your house number and street. It's usually a couple of days a week so it shouldn't get that expensive. I'm still trying to work our out as we only paid $50 Water bill for the first two and half months we were there but were watering all through that. Maybe we're on a bore!
