OO7nessie
Hi, can anyone give me advice re living NoR and working SoR? Looking to rent in/around Gwelup area but hoping to work at new Fiona Stanley hospital SoR. Is it possible to drive in a reasonable time either on Freeway or other main routes? I have been hearing that congestion on Freeway is serious problem, is that the case? Any advice greatly appreciated. Regards
portlaunay
I've not done the trip in rush hour myself but I have driven in the opposite direction - SOR to NOR and it's always rammed. I certainly wouldn't want to commute in rush hour. You could take the coast road south, cross the river in Freo and take South Street to FSH but I don't think that's any easier, it really builds up around Scarborough in the morning. Personally I'd be looking elsewhere.

Regards It'll be bad in the Perth metro area and across the river...where you have a city built on a river with only a handful of places to cross and everyone trying to do the same thing it undoubtedly gets snarled up. Bibbs
Depends when your shift starts. It's fine till about 7, then rubbish till after 9. In the evenings, from about 3 till 6. On Fridays, its worse as people try and get out the city for the weekend. If you can get close to Stirling Station, and get the train, it's under 30 mins to Murdoch. abc
Traffic here is nothing compared with other major cities in the world!
Deb
Can you not use public transport or will you be doing different shifts.
OO7nessie
Yes I think public transport will be the way forward if we stick with our housing location. Thanks to all for the responses.
Druid
I do it every morning, I leave home at 6:20am, the Mitchell Freeway is fine until Ocean Reef, then stop start until Hepburn, then it picks up again after Reid Highway for a while but slows again until Glendalough/Scarborough Beach Road, from there it's fine all the way to Fiona Stanley, I get off at Farrington, I repeat the journey in reverse at 4PM, the Kwinana is fine up until the 80km zone at South Terrace, but gets moving again after the initial slowdown, then it's fine up until it meets the Graham Farmer, slows again when all 6 lanes eventually merge down to 3, then it's stop start all the way to Erindale / Reid Highway, after that it's fine, but one little bumber bashing and it all turns to rat poo, the same old story, the earlier you leave the better the traffic, if you leave half hour later it's worse. rickandange
Not sure about the opposite direction, but I have to leave Baldivis at 6:40 to get to work in Scarborough at 8. I go down the west coast highway and cockburn road now, but some days it was taking up to two hours on the freeway and mitchell. The mitchell looks pretty rammed going in the city north to south at that time too, but I'm not sure what way you'd be going.
