Hi everyone, just wondered if anyone could advise where to start looking for costing up sending a load of tools from uk to perth, which will need to be airfreighted so that they are there quickly? It will including boxes of hand tools plus some pretty hefty power tools. Anyone done this before? Any ideas on cost??

I know this will depend in space weight, so if anyone has sent anything and you could tell me size of box/pallet and weight and cost that would be much appreciated.

Thanks all

PSS will ship just about anything if you have a visa, I sent three huge tool boxes over in 2007 with them, but they had to go by sea freight as the cost of airfreight was ridiculous, give them a call, go to B&Q and buy a huge trunk, chuck all the tools in, measure & weigh it, remember airfreight goes on volume vs weight, so you pay for both, it might be worth your while to buy essential tools local just to get by and wait for sea freight to arrive.

Once you know how big & how heavy, google air freight UK to Aus and start making some phone calls.

Thanks Druid. We aren't sea freighting our stuff until we have a rental and are settled over there, whereas by OH is going over in about 6 weeks to stay with friends and look for work. We may have to look at just sending hand tools and a few power tools and send his bigger ones over with our furniture in the container.

It is ridiculous some of the airfreight costs I have seen so far, and that was just with a very rough guess on weight and cubic metre size.

Thanks again

Wish we could send his out in the container but he need them straightaway (we can;t afford for him to have a break before starting work)

The quotes so far are extortionate (around £1000 plus insurance.)

Anyone know what the deal is with paying Duty on them at customs in Oz? How much is this??

Thanks :)

I'm sending mine out with the container, at least I get 4 weeks off work before we leave. I reckon it'll take us 4 weeks to get htings sorted at that side of the water and hopefully we'll be reunited around that time!

You don't pay duty as you are an immigrant, give the shipping company your visa and you are exempt, if you do have to pay it due to the shipping company being ignorant you can claim it back.

At a 1000 quid you may as well buy what you need immediately new here, that will go a long way, then ship all the rest with your container, I brought a toolbox with me on the plane, my 30kg allowance was my tool box, my clothes were in my carry on, my big toolboxes arrived in the container, and remember, you buying all those tools here is tax deductable, so it's a double whammy, happy days, you can go shopping in Bunnings, retail therapy for men :biglaugh:

Thats what the OH said, he may as well sell and re-buy, but it is annoying because he has bought all new over the last few months and got really good trade deals, so we are now pricing up sending smaller parcels bit by bit.

Good to know on the duty thanks!

Don't sell anything, bring them in the container, buy cheaper brands here just to get by, plenty of good and plenty of cheap brands here, the good stuff is bloody expensive, but the cheap stuff is bloody cheap, but it will work until your container arrives, the tradies will understand that you are waiting for your tools, I just bought a Dewalt cordless screwdriver cost me $200 in the UK the same screwdriver is £50, but an Ozito equivalent is $70
