Guppulini
Hi All, I'm a Group Financial Controller of a global research services firm based in London and planning on moving down to Perth end of August / beginning of September. Is anybody able to tell me what the job market is like there and if this is actually a good time to come over? I've heard that the job market is very competitive at the moment, demand has slowed and companies are not replacing leavers. Please can you shed some light for me on this from your point of view? Many thanks in advance!!

Jim Shorts
Hey Guppulini, the market is very competitive at the moment...just talk to any recruiter! Don't expect to be in a similar role as you are in the UK, I have had to take a significant pay cut and a role I was doing 10 years ago just to make it over here. You will be applying for jobs with people who have significant local experience and that means a lot over here! I applied for a job the other day and the recruiter told me they had over a 100 applications and a lot of them ticked all the right boxes. Unless you have good mining experience I think you will struggle to find a similar FC job. Keep looking on Seek.com au to give you an idea of what type of roles are available and be worth getting in contact with recruiters a month beforehand so you are known to them when you meet up. As long as you don't have high expectations im sure you will be fine. Taking a contract role might lead to longer term employment, so be open minded. There are some terrible recruiters over here, so make sure you keep following up with them. Best of luck!
