kealeyjay
Hi, my husband, 2 children and I, get to Perth on 24th July. we are staying in Mullaloo for 29 days and in that time will be looking for furniture to take to the house we decide to rent. I have been looking on Ebay ad Gumtree but just wondered if anyone knew of someone moving back to the uk etc that could help us out? Thanks
portlaunay
Hi and welcome to PP. eBay isn't very big here, Gumtree is far more popular. There's also the Quokka which is a free ads paper and then there's verge surfing. Periodically local councils offer a free collection service for large items so you find households pile furniture out on the verge a week or so before they collection is due. You can often find some gems amongst the trash. Other than that there are plenty of cheaper furniture stores around including Ikea and some Op shops have larger branches with furniture. Don't worry, there's no shortage of cheap ways to furnish your home. You can also keep an eye on the For Sale section on here, lots of people heading to the UK advertise their stuff on here. nikkiwd
We were collecting something from Super A mart (pretty cheap furniture shop) yesterday and while waiting round the back at the collection area we saw lots of 'seconds' furniture sitting there, some half built, some with major damage and others with minor scuffs/scrathches etc. We managed to pick up a nice solid wood lamp table with 2 corners slightly bashed (they were the back 2 corners so not noticable anyway) for $30. Also a bedside table with a wonky drawer for $30, Hubby just tinkered with it at home and the drawer slides perfectly now. We were pretty chuffed with our bargains as upstairs both were selling for over $150 in the shop!
verystormy
There is a company called fantastic furniture that do packages - so an entire room or even a house at discounted prices. For kitchen stuff, ikea do a home starter kit that we bought and it has pretty much all of the thinks you need for the kitchen - knives, peeler, masher and things for a couple of hundred. We still use a lot of it now.
Nic964
Try gumtree. Search on the free add section. We've picked up settees, tables, chairs for the total of nothing!!! People moving interstate ir just between rentals will happily give stuff away rather than pay to move it. Invest in a trailer, and your home building costs are minimsl. Druid
Any one know best place to buy tv and are the much more expensive than England. Dick Smith, Kambos, Good Guys etc etc have just had some fantastic end of financial year sales, if you are quick you could still get a bargain, there are lots of no name brands in all the stores which are much cheaper than the UK! Lou8670
Any one know best place to buy tv and are the much more expensive than England. Shame! If I'd known you could have come to the Harvey Norman sale with me in Port Kennedy! They were doing staff rates on TVs on Monday night! On the last day I the EOFY sales we picked up a brand new side by side Samsung fridge with ice and chilled water dispenser for $1300, a brand new half price washing machine, Tefal rice/steam/slow cooker and vacuum cleaner. We managed to get most of it for staff price or less and all of it for less than we would have paid for the fridge back in the UK. I think you'll find the TVs cheaper than the UK and you may still be able to pick up a bargain. Just make sure you barter and get them to reduce the price from the one advertised!
