Hi there we leave in a couple of weeks & heading to mullaloo initially too, our son is 2, look out for my posts on the area etc

, all mentioned are lovely. Coastal rental subs more expensive, but there is no substitute for driving around and getting a feel.people have different wants and needs. All the best ! May catch you on the flip side :)

Our countdown is 30 days today... It's an amazing feeling to finally be able to say "we're going later THIS month" :-)

Hi,

very exciting to say its within the month isn't it. Where about's in perth are you going? I actually got my countdown wrong,I'm a day ahead of myself.we don't fly until the 29th so 28 more sleeps not 27 :-D, so a day in front of you and your family. We are traveling to Manchester to fly as thought a big send off from friends and family would kill us, so a nights sleep away will hopefully ease the pain and start our adventure the next day with a fresh start. Where are you flying from?

Hi Joanne,

We're flying from Heathrow with Singapore on the Thursday. I'd planned to have a lovely day in London on the Wednesday with the children. Have a nice meal and relax and enjoy our last night in the UK. Unfortunately Rich's parents have booked into the same hotel and are travelling down on Wednesday morning so they too can enjoy our last day in the UK... Rich's mum has been very good all the way along, to our faces anyway, but it's a expecting a lot from her not to get emotional on that last day. I really didn't want a send off at the airport either but what can we do? She wants to come and neither of us have got the heart to tell her we don't want her to.

We're starting in Rockingham for the first month but I really like Fremantle so at the moment all we can say is probably SOR?

It's finding 2 schools that the kids like that's worrying me the most, and then hoping the ones that they like have spaces and aren't a million miles apart. Still, it gives me lots to think about when I'm lying awake at night, too excited to sleep :-D

Ohh no, nightmare. We told everyone from day one we did not want send offs but your right, what can you do in that situation. Just hope the kids don't get too emotional for the long journey ahead.

are you looking private or public schools? Just I know they are very strict with catchment area so hope the schools they like are close to your home. We are SOR too. Holiday let in baldivis and really like the look of there but options kept open to hunt around rockingham / mandura area.

i no exactly the sleepless nights you are experiencing, I'm worrying about all sorts ,and the most ridiculous things too that are matter less :-). But I'm assuring myself it's normal -:D

oh and I hope you mother in law don't see this sight or she will be cancelling that hotel pronto and big huffs, heehee :biglaugh: X

Hmmm.... Good point! Thankfully she's not really into anything online. Likes the odd Facebook photo, that's about it.

I'm going to try and keep the mood light and upbeat. Plan lots to do in London on the Wednesday so we're too busy to get emotional. The morning of the flight isn't going to be easy but it's an 11am flight. It's going to be quite rushed, so I don't think we'll see that much of them. It certainly won't be a long goodbye. I'm always running late and I've got a particularly poor record where planes are concerned :-\

I've got an open mind when it comes to schools. I've budgeted expecting to pay and that would certainly make life easier because we'd be free from the catchment area issue. I just want to get them into schools they like... I've emailed almost every school in the areas we've considered asking about spaces but very few have replied. It's definitely my biggest worry? My son needs to start his WACE in February so I feel like I've got one chance to get it right for him. I really want to get him into a school so he can settle and make friends before the hard work starts. My little one loves school and I don't want a bad experience to spoil that. I had a job interview last week so if I'm lucky enough to get that then at least we'll have one thing sorted to help us focus on an area a little bit?! At the moment we're looking at schools in Fremantle, Rockingham, Baldivis and Mandurah... I'd really like to narrow that down a bit.

I take it you have children? What ages? X

Hey Deb, school wise, I had the same concerns from UK when emailing, I was hearing nothing back and got slightly panicked to be honest. However, when I was there, I walked into the schools and asked for a tour and in the large part, they were accommodating. The school and area I thought I would go for was lovely, but the kids picked a different school in a different area so ultimately that decided it for us. I agree that they have to feel happy in their schooling, and I think as parents, it takes pressure of us as they have an element of control over their choices which makes them happier people, and us as a result.

I have to say that the public schools I visited, were fine. Better than some of the schools here, and certainly in terms of the offer and provision imo. Mine chose a private option, this did mean that we were not limited by catchment. In fact the best performing state school, achieved higher rental prices and we were shocked to discover that we paid out the same by living in a coastal suburb and the kids going private. So I would say, don't worry, when you are there the schools are really welcoming. They told me that they have countless enquiries from overseas and therefore concentrate on the 'real people' who actually arrive and want to look. The information was very forthcoming.

I hope that everything goes well with you guys. We leave 2 weeks today. School sorted and even have an appointment to meet the school bursar when we arrive. They are opening up the uniform shop especially so the children can start their first day looking the part. Oh, I do like a nice bit of customer service! :)

That's good to know. I thought it might be a case of them getting too many enquiries. We found the same with catchment areas for the better schools, more on rent and government school or less rent and school fees? I'm just hoping they don't chose schools a million miles away from each other. I know public transport is cheap for school children but I don't want my son to have too much of a commute and it would be nice if he lived near his friends.

Is Mullaloo NOR? I sold a mountain bike to a guy from there a few weeks ago. He's back for a few months staying with his parents. Gave me lots of tips on good places to eat and drink but I didn't write them down and I've forgotten what he said :-(

Good morning!

Lets hope you make it in time for this plane then !! You have good time flying really, we are at 9.10 in the morning and with us only spending two hours at Singapore airport means we will get to perth shortly after 3 in the afternoon which again I'm pleased it's not middle of night and will be good to have an early night and fresh start the next day. How long are your transfer times? I would have

Loved to spend more time at Singapore as it is meant to be fantastic but we thought we would be that excited just to get there.

It's good your are being open minded about all the school, gives you a lot more options. I've herd the public schools are so good that we have really looked in to most of them in the little area we love (Baldivis ) and all schools have got back to us and been so helpful. But we are still intending to shop around once there just for piece of mind.

ues I have two children one girl 9 soon to be 10 in August and boy of 4. Both so very excited about the move that it has made this so much easier. It's awful when some parents have to just take them against their will.

It's such a red hot day today here in Newcastle it's making me really think, wow I could definitely get used to this better weather on a daily basis, even there worst of winters is nothing like ours. So much more for the family to do together. I think that is the big thing we crave. You can only take so much of indoor children's play areas and cinemas :-)

really nice to hear your so similar plans to ours and that we will both be sharing same experiences. Will be great to meet up once we are settled for coffees, wines or even just a play day at e park with the kids x

Liking your posts as you'll be near me when you arrive, we have kids similar ages (mine are 10, 8 and 8) and I'm already friends with Deb on FB :cute:.

It would be good to meet up when you arrive . I organised a meet up for families with young children last weekend at Heathcote park which was a great success and we're hoping to do more so you'll both have to join us when you're here!

Hi lou,

yes I've been reading your posts and a lot of them making me very excited and just love your arriving picture, one of the best I've seen.

that would be fantastic to meet up. Really need to make friends as I'm sure that's what keeps you going when you have just left all your family and friends in the uk, a bit support and being next to people in the same situation must help a lot. A date for mums must be organised to :-) , a bit wine and really get to know them eh :biglaugh: X joanne

I don't think we have long at Singapore airport either. There's a guide on the airport website which suggests what you can do depending on how long you have. I just want a meal and a shower, but I suspect I'll spend most of my time in the butterfly garden as I will still haven't learnt to think before I speak and I already told Bella we'd go... Singapore is top of my list of new holiday destinations so I'm sure I'll get my chance to go soon enough. My friend picked up tickets for $88 last year and went from Perth to do her Christmas shopping :-D
