wee_me
Hi we have something(s) in the loft. At first I couldn't work out what it was as it sounded larger than a rat and it mostly scuttles about during the night so I guess it must be a possum but the other day I heard noises during the day that sounded like a rat or mouse so I went to bunnings and got rat poison but I'm a bit apprehensive about going up in the loft!! I am also worried if I put rat poison up I'll kill the possum (I think they are protected). So in a nut shell - who is responsible for the loft is it me or the landlord? I know I'm responsible for pest control so spray the house but am I responsible for the loft? It is surly not my problem if the maintenance has allowed for access to the loft? Also if I put bait up I take it the possum is not clever enough to leave it? Thanks
portlaunay
We had rats in our loft space and it was the landlords responsibility to send out the pest control and deal with it. Where do you live? Possums tend not to live in towns but if you're on the fringe it might be. Possums make quite a lot of noise - thumping and jumping as well as running around but will only do so at night. Rats will be more scratchy as they gnaw away at stuff and you'll likely hear them during the day too. Pest control isn't as expensive as you might think and they'll be able to do a proper assessment. wee_me
I'm in mount lawley It sounds really big I heard it fall off a beam or something and it sounded larger than a rat but I've not heard any noises and I read possums are noisey I'll let the letting agent know I've reported damp on the ceiling so there's an access point somewhere for water and visitors! We have a large tree that hangs over the house so it will be easy to access for visitors! Plimthing
What you have to worry about is when it stops making a noise! That means that something bigger or more scary as killed it! Hopefully whatever kills it, will eat it , as it starts to smell after a while!
