We've told the family!

Recommended Posts

I didn't know where to post this really,

but massive weight off our shoulders, all the family now know our plans. And so pleased to say everyone took it really well, including my mum who I thought would have the major break down. To be honest we painted itto her thatit was more of an idea we may persue for now, and then we will keep mentioning to her the that the possibility may become a reality, just breaking her in gently!

So I went on the Immi website to register an EOI, and feel a little sheepish as we didn't realise I had to have my skills assessment completed first, but we learn these things along the way. So we are currently doing an Ebay scout today around the house to raise the funds for the skills assessment.

But first step has been taken! Our journey has begun!

Good that they took it well, we told our mums that it was initially for two years to see if we liked it so they have a bit of hope we might go back...even though we did make the move based on it being one way, we just didn't tell them that!

Some advice about the process, just make sure you have over 60 points (and evidence to prove them), skills assessment and IELTS (if needed for extra points) done before you do your EOI. Also once you have these done, you do your EOI and if you get invited to apply for the visa, you have a limited gime to lodge it (28 days i think) and you pay the huge visa fees at the point that you lodge the visa application. It is a very expensive business this emigrating malarkey

good luck with the skills assessment.

We did that too. Technically not a lie, because we told them we would be in WA for 2 years and Rich is state sponsored so whatever happens we're committed to that. I think since then they've realised our plans are pretty permanent, but it cushioned it a bit at the time.

Well we told my dad and my husbands parents it's a definite thing, we told my mum we had looked into it and the opportunities to us say we should give it a try, so prettymuch thatwe're going but we approached it very lightly and gently!

Thank you nikkiwd for your advice, we'd done our research into the fact that I had enough points to apply and that I had to to do an EOI, we also knew that I had to do a skills assessment, just not at what point.

We now know that I have to sit my IELTS, and send off for my skills assessment, then add it to my EOI so I can complete it, and then once invitation to apply has come, I have to pay upfront for the visa.

But at least we know now what I need, how much and when it needs paying, i'm sure there's more i'll find out along the way, I never thought it would be easy to do, but also never imagined i'd have to jump through so many hoops.

Done the fun bit tonight of researching areas/suburbs. x

Can I ask also, does being on maternity leave prior to applying for a visa affect your application? I seem to remember last time when I went through an agent she asked if there were any gaps in my career and I said 8 months mat leave, and i'm sure she said I need to be back at work for so many months, after that gap?

It's just I am on mat leave at the moment, due back in January, i've been off since March, just hoping 11 months out won't affect anything. (I'm a nurse with 7yrs experience)
