Scot01
My friend teaches there and she's worked in several schools in Perth. She thinks it is fantastic. As Arwen says, it is one of the best State schools nor.

Guest Laugan
Hi Does anyone have any children at or opinions on Duncraig Senior High School ? Its for my 15yr old daughter yr 10 - she hopes to go on to Uni/Science based Many Thanks Louise Hi Louise We are also looking at putting our daughters into Duncraig High School, thou our youngest won't start there until year 7 next year and our other daughter is 14, in year 8. I hear it high performing school and has been recommended to us by a school teacher friend who lives in the area. We had a reccie trip to Perth a few weeks ago and had a tour around the school, unfortunately, it was a student free day so couldn't properly get a feel for the place but very happy with the schools performance. It was between Duncraig or Carine HS and choose to go with Duncraig. We currently live in regional Victoria but relocating to the Duncraig/Sorrento/padbury/Hillary's area once we have a rental in place, which we haven't been successful on as yet. Are you still in the UK? We moved to Victoria 2 years ago from Scotland, thou my hubby is Scottish, I'm English.
Akasully2
Glad to hear other people's positive opinions of the Duncraig SHS, which backs up my conclusions. As many of you on here that have followed my progress will know, I am like CID (either that or OCD) constantly doing the research and asking the questions. Duncraig looks good on paper but has the right feel too. I am very happy with my choice.
louisef
Thanks for your replies :smile2: - I have only heard goog thngs about Duncraig so Im sure its a good choice. We re also looking at The Vines/ Ellenbrook as an area - the school there is very new and has excellent facitities but Im not sure about its rep and the league tables arent great. The area its self is all very new and boarders the swan valley and the affordablity of the housing is much better than NOR - we could afford the "Aussie Dream House " there. In this area we are choosing rentals by the least disgusting for $600 p/w plus - and then building plots seem out of reach for a reasonable size. The downside to Ellenbrook is no train line & 30 mins drive to the beach - and its just that "new town " ish - if it all works it could be great /if not its a mare. Mmm trying to make a decsion in a week before the end of the school holiday has basically given me brain burn out and i ve taken to my bed with a Migraine ! Akasully2
Louise, whilst it is important to get your daughter settled quickly in a school so she can make option choices, I am sure that another week or two off will not be a disaster. They will still give her option choices based on her performance in the UK. Loads of people come over during the summer hols, after finishing school in the UK. Those kids will still need to be accommodated, they are not going to turn them away. I know when you are at the chalk face everything can seem like, 'now, now, now' but often the reality is very different if you could only just step outside of yourself and see it from another's perspective. Take time to choose the right area for you. This is the place you are going to have to be immersed in 24/7, so make sure it feels right for you. When we came here we set ourselves a budget for the rental but that quickly went out of the window when we could see what we could get for that. Quality of life is so important, even if something else has to give to get it. I hope this may calm your restless mind and the migraine is soothed away quickly. Take care of yourself. louisef
Thanks Sully :smile2: Good advice as allways. Feeling much better - you were right rushing round manically I just ended up in a right tizwas and sounding very whinny Pommy ! Just so many choices and scared of making the wrong/uninformed decision but think we have a decent enough local rental sorted and now feeling relieved - will keep you posted X
louisef
Hi Laugan We ve only been here 2 wks but it does seem longer - think thats becuase we ve been through so many rental houses and some have been shockers but saw two decent ones yesterday - the rent you pay doesn't seem to correlate the standard of the house. The agents have said the market has become much "softer" and it's more a tenants market so good luck with your move - keep us posted. :smile2:
Guest Laugan
Hi Louise Are you still looking in the Duncraig area or have you chosen another area? We are still searching for houses, the houses I like are too expensive and don't want to settle for second best. We put in an application for a property last week but just missed out, it was perfect as well. It's not ideal searching google street view to check out the surrounding areas but I have no choice. looking at Carine abd Churchlands HS areas as well but feeling Duncraig more. Have your child/ren had any feelings to which schools they would like to go to?
