ImmilBees
Hi, we hope to make the big move in september 2015, my Daughter turns 5 on the 8th September, and will just be starting primary school in the UK. Do I need to be looking for Pre primary schools therefore for her in Australia, or would she still be kindergarten age? The Australian department of education states for pre primary "To enrol, your child must be five years old by 30 June in the year they attend Pre-primary." So if she turns 5 in the september am I right in thinking she will be pre primary age? Am I also right in thinking that the school year doesn't start until February, so does she stay off until then or start school with 3 months of the term left? I'm confused! stevekolb
Hi, yes you are right, the new school year starts at the beginning of Feb. Sounds like your daughter would attend Kindy for 3 months. All primary schools have pre-primary education - it is similar to reception class in UK. Kindy is similar to Nursery and not sure if all schools have kindy classes too, but attendance to kindy is on a part-time basis, so your daughter would have an easy transition into the Aussie schooling system. Hope this helps.
Weedolly
Thats right she will go into Pre Primary which is the first compulsory year of school in February. Depending on where you are going, the 4 year old Kindy may also be part of the school, my daughter is at Kindy just now and in February moves up to Pre Primary but because Kindy is part of the school the little ones wear the uniform the same as the rest and madam thinks she is a big school girl already! ImmilBees
Brilliant, thanks guys. If we can find the money from somewhere and visa application etc go to plan we'd like to be out there for September, I think that'll be nice for her to transition with the other kids, (Plus we don't have to shell out for school uniforms!) but also if we don't make it over until the february (which is plan B date) she hasn't missed out too much. x

And am I right in thinking that you haven't done your skill assessment or IELTS yet? Apologies if I've got you mixed up with someone else but I think September may be a bit too optimistic if you're going for a 189 or 190 visa. Hope everything goes smoothly for you, and again I apologise if I've got you mixed up with someone else!! xxx
ImmilBees
Ha no no, it's next September 2015 so 15 months, but more likely 2016 so 18-24 months. It was a case of best case scenario everything went through, and we got visa etc first time with no glitches. But I am well aware that some of the processes can be extremely slow, so as I said it was a best case scenario, that once all assessments were passed and submitted and the visa grant given we could be out there by the end of 2015.
