Having to leave my pooch....until Dec

So after a complete crappy day in work...and on day 3 of detox, so feeling rubbish anyway, I have come home to an e mail off Petair that the soonest Bailey can travel is the 15th of Dec. We are planning on going end of Sept. To say that Im upset is an understatement. I was expecting it...as I didnt realise that so long needed to be between rabies and travel, but I think the combination of the comedown off Cafine, carbs, chocolate and everything else, along with actually seeing it on paper tipped me over the edge.

There have been tears, the detox has been broken, and Baileys sick of me squeezing him and has retreated to the floor.

Anyone had to leave their pets for this long. Were they ok without you? Did family have them?

Also, he will be in Quarantine over christmas, do you know if the Q is still fully staffed??

Thanks for your help

Donna

Hi Donna completely get where you are coming from.My beagle has been booked in for the wrong start day for his quarantine(mistake at quarantine station)and the thought of him being stuck in sydney tipped me over the edge.we are going on the 1st sept and i have been mainly worried about him!! He is being fed too many treats so probably won;t fit in his crate. Can't help re knowing what quarantine will be like but everyone seems to say they are fine when picked up and won't hate us forever.but i do think dog worries are the final straw! i would suggest wine x

Hi Janh and Donna, I know exactly how you both feel, I'm worried about how bailey will feel on the plane not seeing familiar faces for so long and just doing the flight on his own :(

Quarantine is also a worry he's used to being in the house with us all the time not outside or in a kennel we even thought my oh might go to Sydney for 10 days whilst bailey was in quarantine but then sense prevailed, I am sure they are all going to be fine at all parts of their little journeys and we will all be eagerly waiting for them to arrive! Janh bailey may be in quarantine with your beagle (sorry don't know his name) as we are booking bailey to travel first week in sept if poss.

I did take u up on ur suggestion, detox went out the window and wine was consumed. My dad will have him, but im still not going to see him for 3 months, then hes going to b in Q over christmas, not that he knows the diff! I never contemplated starting this process without him, and even tho im sure he will b looked after, its not going to b with me! :( i feel guilty every time i look at him!

Glad you have someone to look after him.Flash is being left in UK too as dates were miscalculated...only for 2weeks so I know not as long but it is hard.think he is off to kennels for 2 weeks even before his ordeal begins!!! I am over feeding him to compensate! He keeps staring at me with his hound sad eyes

Hi Donna, our Bailey was in quarantine over Xmas, the facilities are fully staffed as the animal welfare is taken serious over here, the only problem for us was they cut the visiting hours down as the receptionist was off over Xmas, not such a big deal for you as you are not using Byford and couldn't go visit anyway. Are you going to kennel him with Petair between you leaving and him flying, the staff at Petair are wonderful, they will look after him.
