Ernie10
Hi Everyone, please could someone advise us regarding this Visa. We were granted the visa on 7th July after a long wait since Feb .I am the main applicant (Bricklalayer) and we plan on arriving in Mandarah early September,OH,14 year old son and 20 year old daughter .W hen we applied we stated that our daughter would arrive after she has completed Universitybut the agent returned the form and told us to change it to state that she will be coming with us .Does our daughter have to arrive with us or can she activate her visa and return when she has finished Uni. Can she fullfill her obligation to live and work in mandarah for 2 years later than us or does she have to complete the 2 years at the same time Many thanks
rachell
not sure if this is right but is your daughter not 'getting in' on your visa because she is at uni and therefore a dependant? is that not why your agent asked you to say she was coming with you? just curious because that's how our daughter is applying on ours! did you have to provide evidence of her studies etc? Arash
Hi Ernie 10, I also have the same plan. I have 489 visa granted on 10 June 2014. I'm the main applicant and want to enter Australia (Mandurah) before my wife and son. However, my family have to make the first entry not later than the time frame issued by DIAC (Ours is until 17 Apr 2015). Your daughter can make first entry and then come back to study. But, she has to enter Australia again anytime before 4 years finished.

Arash
She can either study or work. For main applicant, working or studying is mandatory. If she is now studying outside of Australia, she can apply for student exchange program to accompany you. Then, you don't need to worry about her. She can ask her university to exchange. This is better.
DyLeB
As long as she validates her visa she can return to UK and finish her degree. And return once she has completed her degree. There is no need for a student exchange program as she holds a provisional visa, but she will not be able to study in Perth as a holder of 489 state nominated visa. She should be able to be included on your 887 application once you or secondary applicant (either can b main applicant for the 887 visa)has met the requirement or living for 2 years in regional Australia and working for 1 year even if she has not lived for 2 years as she will be part of the family unit. Once she returns after finishing her course she will be head to same conditions of living, working and studying in Regional Australia, until 887 is granted. Thanks for your post we have been trying to get our agent to confirm this but they seem reluctant they mentioned that we will still have to prove that she is still dependant on us if she returns to the Uk all they will commit to is that she has to go with us when we arrive should we inform immigration of the situation or just let her activate and return? ramin
Hi Friends I am the main applicant of 489 visa. I am student at university and it took 2 years to finish my course. Would you please help me about this question that how long would I have deadline for first entry to Australia after granted visa? Is it related to my medical examination date? Amiio1
Just a quick question ernie10- we have just lodged our 489 visa, my husband too s a bricklayer. When did you get your visas granted? They have told us 4-6 months but hoping its quicker. It's hard to decide when to put house on market etc not knowing when we will receive visas. We too are hoping to move to mandurah.

We too are hoping to move to mandurah. Hi Amilio1 it was fairly quick from lodgement to invitation then medicals we got our police checks done as soon as we got the invite. Are you passed this stage ? When we sent the meds and checks in we then got stuck in the backlog which normally happens around February/March . We then had to wait till the new numbers arrived in July .we made the gamble of selling our house before our visa was granted we wanted to get to Mandurah before sept to sort school out for our son . We also did a reccie in March which helped massively when we arrived. Good luck it won't be long and there's plenty of work for bricklayers. Any more questions let know thanks mike
