EmsyEss
Hi all, I've just realised that our shipping container arrives three weeks today! Not sure what to expect during the two days we are having our belongings packed up. Just wondered if anyone could give any advice on what I can do to prepare for its arrival. I've arranged for my baby and toddler to stay with my parents a few days before hand so we can pack our suitcases and get everything we are taking on the flight over to their house. I've emptied the loft and sorted through all boxes taking unwanted items to the tip and to charity shops. I've cleaned down our tents and outdoor bits. I've completed all paperwork required. I'm slowly working through the kitchen cupboards and wardrobes to make sure we get rid of things in advance. Just feel like there should be more I can be getting on with to make the days they are here as easy as possible. They have said our load will be quite tight in our 20 foot container, has anyone had this happen and what did you end up sacrificing? Anyone who can share their experience on this? Thanks in advance! Must say this forum has been such a great help in making us feel as prepared as possible for our move! Really hope to meet some of you in October once we finally fly over. Emma, Matt, Ava and Mollie :-)
stu4668
Hi Emma, we were packed up by PSS at the end of June all into a 20ft container. The guys that came were excellent and when they were loading the container they filled every nook and cranny. we are expecting it to arrive in Freemantle around 8th August but then the contents are going into storage until we find a house to buy. We did a lot of de-cluttering, car boot sales, charity shops and the local tip. there is no turning back once you wave goodbye to that full container
flatpack
Ours left Monday of this week and it was the first time I felt nervous about our move.
stu4668
I must admit it does hit home when you see your life loaded into a metal container and shipped to the other side of the world.
EmsyEss
I just can't quite believe how close we are to packing up and getting there now! After so much planning and organising it's the final countdown and very daunting especially now we are starting to sort out the house. Hoping everything we want fits into the container, we seem to constantly be accumulating more especially now we have two children and my mum keeps popping round with more bits and pieces from her loft... I guess we may need to leave some things behind. So exciting!

I think it is Kent that handle the container this side, we used PSS on feedback from others
Nikkis2000
We found the whole process to be fine. Kent were brilliant when they delivered our stuff. Right down to putting together half my furniture for me even though they didn't have to. Every experience is different I guess!
stu4668
I hope I have the same guys as you did then Nikki , did you have a good meet up at Freo?
Druid
Well if PSS have switched back to Kent then you should be fine, we used PSS too, they were great until the ship set sail, it only went down hill from there, we had Australian Van Lines this side, think they are headquartered out of Brisbane, dealing with them was a pain in the arse they were basically very unhelpful, the local lads that delivered our stuff were great though, they assembled all of the furniture and took all of the rubbish away, a lot of our stuff got minor damage when the container gets unpacked for AQIS inspection then re packed, when I complained they told me to claim it off my insurance, turns out it wasn't covered anyway, the only good thing was the car was undamaged, thankfully. stu4668
fingers crossed it all goes smoothly for me, we are sending the majority of our contents into storage until we get our own place, just need access to bikes and clothes beforehand. Check out the House Building thread it's got some piccies. We intend to use Kent again when we finally move up there (this time next year - ish!) Lou8670
@EmsyEss make sure you bubble wrap all breakables! The shippers told us we would only be insured if they pack the breakables but I'm dreading our container arriving as I caught them packing some unwrapped and between cushions and from what I've heard the chances are they'll be broken on arrival. I wished is wrapped everything in bubble wrap and hen let them pack everything!

We've moved a few times now (company moves) and each time I have been amazed at just how much wrapping paper goes around one small glass! Thats good to know thanks @Lou8670, I was just reading through our shipping pack and it says all fragile items are wrapped in white paper and tissue before placing into china cartons. So you reckons it's worth buying some bubble wrap and doing this in advance of them getting here? Can't quite believe I only have two more weeks to prepare and I'm juggling a baby and a toddler too! So looking forward to waving the container off as feel like I am constantly finding more things that need to be done! Did you do a lot of packing and sorting before they arrived? Ive gone through our cupboards and wardrobes and obviously will pack our suitcases and take anything out of the house that we are taking with us on the flight before they arrive but feel like there is more I could be sorting... Lou8670
Just bear in mind you will have no time on the day as they sweep through the house like a whirlwind!
