Maverick
Ok im 31 years old, I've been living in a regional area and working on a Farm for past 6 months. My employer is very keen to keep me here long term and I'm keen to get a permanent residency. I do have a uk trade, I'm a qualified motor mechanic, however obviously working on a farm involves many different roles. So my question is, what visa applies to my situation? And if I cant get a PR straight away, would I be in a better position to get one If I work for 4 years on a 457 first??? I just don't want to have to go home
verystormy
No. There is no advantage of being on a 457 other than bypassing the skills assessment after 2 years with the same employer. It is impossible to say what is best based on what you have posted, but 189 or 190 could be possible. Be aware of your visa conditions. If you are on a WHV you can only stay with that employer 6 months and a breach may result in serious issues getting another visa. Your employer could apply to nominate you for a 457 which would be potentially quicker. However not every employer can qualify. I would suggest you and your employer speak to a good agent. With being regional, surely a RSMS would be the quickest and easiest option, the Regional Certifying Body look kindly on these matters and rubber stamp the application.
