kayliandnathan
Hi All, as you know our visa has been on hold due to us awaiting to birth of our new born daughter. Elsie was born beginning on June and finally we could continue to progress with the last few stages of our visa application. This included retrieving our babies birth certificate and also applying for her first British passport. Our new born was found to have an issue with her left hip after having a new born check at the hospital, we have had to wait 6 weeks for her to have any further investigations as they like give the hip chance to rectify itself. On Monday I took Elsie for her MRI scan which would determine if Elsie continued to have a displaced hip and unfortunately she has! Today I have been to another hospital with her to see the consultant who has explained her treatment for the next few months. Elsie is now in a body harness for 6 weeks which holds her legs in a frog like position to stop her legs from straightening, they explained that the harness is effective although all children respond differently to treatment. If after 6 weeks she remains to have problems then a further 6 weeks in the harness is needed. If again after trying the harness for a maximum of 12 weeks Elsie does not respond then this means she will need to go under anaesthetic and have her hip placed in position and both legs placed in plaster for another 6 weeks. We are currently waiting the return of her passport which is immanent to allow us to go for our medical assessments. We have also reapplied for additional police checks to allow us for a later date entry into Aus so rather than end of November this year it will be more like may 2015 so we have set our minds to February 2015 as an estimated date of departure. Will this situation mean that she will fail a medical examination does anyone have any knowledge or advice in this situation? I have phoned to speak to my agent and I am awaiting a return call on this. whilst looking on visa beurea website it states that they are looking for long term chronic illnesses such as HIV, hepatitis and TB etc although doesn't mention children. Our daughters medical issues can be addressed within the next 4 to 6 months prior to our departure will they take this into account? I have been so upset this afternoon for my poor little baby has to be strapped up 24/7 and after the shock of all of this. I cannot help but wonder if this could also jeopardise our plans to move to Perth. any advice appreciated!! thanks guys
gar374
Hi, It's a financial decision that is made on medical history/conditions. They want to ensure you won't cost the Ozzie tax payer more than an average Ozzie citizen. They put this figure at about $7000 per year for three or five years. I suspect based on that you would be fine. Particularly as this is a one off issue, rather than a recurring thing. Fingers crossed Elsie's hips get sorted out in the first 6 weeks and she has no further issues. Good luck Gareth
DyLeB
Her Medicals will be referred and you should take specialist reports with you to the medical to speed up this process. Best to get advice from your agent. I was always under the impression that the if the costs were above $100,000 over 5 years this would be instant refusal. Try not to worry about the medical part but I would guess that with the appropriate specialist reports that will prob pass the medical. My daughter had a operation on her hand when she was 51/2 months old - her medical was done at 12 months old - she still sees consultant every year for follow up checks. She passed her medical after it was referred for a few days.

ali
When you go for the medicals take with you a letter from the specialist which should contain: what the condition is, how it is being treated and what the prognosis is. My son and I had both had renal investigations, I took the necessary documents to the medical which were passed on - we did not get asked to provide any further information. hibster76
Hi. Just wanted to say that all 3 of my children had DDH. The younger 2 were in a pavlik harness. One for 6 weeks and one for 12. They are now 8,7 and 3 and all fine. Obviously we are post treatment, but our visa was granted in May. Best of luck.
hibster76
I should also add that we were worried about the medical for our youngest as she has had pneumonia/breathing problems and has been admitted to hospital several times. We took all of the hospital discharge papers and they were not really bothered at the medical.
