Gw2342
Hi all, My very first post and hoping to make some good online friends and obtain some sound advice. I was wondering if anyone emigrated to WA as a surveyor either qualified or in training? i'm married with 2 girls, 3 + 1yrs, the dream is to get across and start to enjoy life. I am looking to change my occupation completely and follow a surveying role in construction. I begin my lengthy road to qualification in September with hope of gradually gaining the right quals, gain experience with a decent firm and hopefully gain sponsorship (this to me would be the quickest/simplistic route?) has anyone gained emigration this way by this exact role. thanks for reading Gareth
verystormy
Hi Gareth. Welcome to the forum. Given the years between now and when you are going to be ready to make the move it is not practical to offer much advice on your occupation. The lists of what occupations are eligible changes regularly as do the rules on how it works. The general principle is to check the occupation lists SOL and CSOL to see if it on there and then check what is required to pass the skills assessment. Then check your points. Druid
Don't you also need a period of time post qualification, before you get assessed ?, it seems an awful long winded way to do it
Gw2342
Hi to you both, thanks for the replies. I need to do some more investigation, but according to other posts i've found when searching the net, the course i'm in the process of completing has been enough to satisfy visa points in the past, that would be only part qual to what a surveyor requires. fully qualified and experienced as you elude to is a long , long process, i hope to part qualify, gain a visa for emigration and continue to full qualified status through work and study once in oz. (dont know if this is possible???) i think i am looking at a possible 3-4yr plan at present unless something in the interim affords me the ability to emigrate. verystormy
I would check that. I only know of a couple of occupations that don't require post qualification experience in order to pass the skills assessment. Look at who is the assessing body for the occupation and they will publish what is required. As I read it, you need 4 years of study full time at uni then two years as a minimum of post qualification experience. http://sssi.org.au/userfiles/docs/SSSI%20Policy/documents_1369096166.pdf So, you will be looking at least 6 years. But, it is of course impossible to know if you will be eligible then as occupations come and go all the time on the lists.
