<Dan>
Just wondering what foods people miss in Australia. I wondered tonight if you can now get proper Marmite and HP Sauce? anywhere other than specialist shops.
Scot01
I don't really miss anything as most things are available if you know where to look, but when I go back to the UK I usually eat more sausages, Wocester sauce crisps, potato scones for breakfast (if I am in Scotland), and Cadburys chocolate. verystormy
You can get marmite in woolies - we buy it. There is a section in woolies and Coles for British foods. Things I miss are game, some of the different oysters. A really good Indian curry. Some of the fish - cod, haddock, sea bass etc. Oh, and peas pudding. Sideshowdeb
Had lunch in Dome yesterday and I was surprised to see bottles of HP sauce.
Bibbs
Stir fried chilli beef & crispy seaweed. Every Chinese takeaway in the UK does it, not seen it here. Took me a while to find a Vindaloo made with coconut milk (found one eventually). I have to make them myself, but it's not the same at 2am, drunk on a Saturday morning. Rossmoyne
Smoked Haddock and Gammon. Have tried both here but somehow just not the same. Every time I go back to England, the first meal I have is a gammon steak... makes me feel that I am really there!

Every time I go back to England, the first meal I have is a gammon steak... makes me feel that I am really there! Try these people for the smoked haddock. I buy it and it's not bad. I can't really remember what the UK stuff is like now but this is a very good substitute. The delivery charge is expensive but for a treat it helps stave off my smoked fish craving. harrissmokehouse.com.au

Rossmoyne
Decent sausages, decent chorizo and prawn cocktail crisps! I had some amazing Chorizo a few weeks back - was visiting Margaret River and there was a stall in the fresh food market selling locally grown and made meat products. Just wish I had bought more to bring home now!

Druid
We get decent smoked haddock from woollies at the fish counter, if I can remember correctly it was imported from South Africa, Marmite or My Mate is sold in IGA! Actually a lot of British stuff is sold in IGA, UK Central in Joondalup has most things we crave for, including a very large selection of M&S underwear for some strange reason
rob-c
Decent curry sauce from a Chinese take away if you have found one let me know
Druid
That's your problem, trying to get curry sauce from a Chinese take away , it's like asking the local Chinese for a chicken vindaloo
Daveakaginge
Decent sausages, pies, cheese, bread/rolls, potatoes, and new potatoes.
Druid
Decent sausages, pies, cheese, bread/rolls, potatoes, and new potatoes. Decent sausages are a problem, pies you can get from most decent butchers in shopping centres, in fact IGA deli do fantastic home made pies, bread & rolls are lovely from most bakers delight, but there are better bakeries, the boutique bakeries are generally the best, all the supermarkets have a separate cheese section for all the cheese that is not cheddar, just about anything is available but it's pricy, potatoes are an issue, you normally only get one choice, maybe I have never seen new potatoes, ever. No, I, it was definitely haddock, I would not entertain cod, it tasted the same as Tesco's smoked haddock, and yes it was orange, it's not available very often, we have had it twice in nearly 3 years
Druid
Just remembered, my mate makes his own smoked meat & fish, he bought a smoker from BBQ,s Galore & hunts around for different flavours to smoke with, he's even imported some wood chips from the USA, his smoked chicken was to die for.
