Laz
Hi..just doing my budget to work out what we can afford to buy in Perth. I know about stamp duty etc, but can anyone give me an estimate of other fees, or an idea of what other fees to expect, if any? I know there will be a settlement agent (no idea of cost), maybe building inspection, anything else?.... We don't plan to have a mortgage so don't need estimate of bank fees. Thank you! Settlement agent will charge you about $1000.00 all in, this is inclusive of all the searches, land registry etc, if you not getting a mortgage then that's about it, for peace of mind you should get a survey, I have heard of some horror stories on older properties, a survey can be $1000 - $10,0000 depending on how in depth you want it. Druid
Oh, and you will qualify for the first home owners grant, that's $10k if you are building new, or $5k I think if you are buying used.

Walkabout
We are just going through this, settlement agent fees are around the $1000 mark, and as stated include land searches etc, you will also pay rates in advance for the remainder of the year, you should do a building inspection - cost will vary depending on what you want to include - we just did a basic one and it came in at $300 and then a white ant inspection (termites) that is $150. Then there is your usual building and contents insurance costs. First time home owners is 10k for new as stated above but only 3k for established properties. Cant think of anything else, like you say stamp duty is the big one (and mortgage insurance if you need finance and dont have a 20% deposit). Will let you know if I think of any others!
