Just thought this would be a cute thread as since we moved to Perth we have extended our family with 2 dogs, a beagle and a beagle x shih tzu and two cats, they truly have become part of our family,

I adore beagles ... I'm not allowed on in the uk yet as the OH states we will not be able to afford to bring the dog .. So I have to wait till I get there in perth ... I've tried researching them and there doesn't seem to be a lot of availability of beagles ( obviously I am looking. From across the pond) I just wondered if there is a 'shortage' xxx

Hi AshleneLouise,

beagles are adorable and our little beagle cross shih Tzu is so cute I will try to post a picture she has just been through chemo for lymphoma and seems to be back to her old self as she was only 4 we had to give her a chance, but nearly 30K later so make sure you insure it as we would of had at least 11k back.i have seen Beagles around cost can start from $900.00 micro chipped and needles.

He's gorgeous! Was that a planned cross breed? Did you get him in the UK or Oz?

We got him from the next suburb for $300 . They crossed them on purpose, we did see both Mum & Dad but I still reserve judgement because hes a bit too big for both breeds. We've had pedigree Great Danes before so hes quite small to us but he's 40kilos so not tiny

How tall is he and do you have the details of the breeder you could PM me? I am sooo broody for a dog and seem to spend ages doing my OCD research on suitable breeds (I used to be OCD researching Perth, now it's dogs). I looked at shar peis (spelling?) and thought they were fantastic, mini versions of Neapolitan Mastiffs (like fang off Harry Potter) but I read they have a lot of skin health issues and that you will end up with huge vets fees. If they could be mixed with a a staff and voila, no probs and ideally could come in grey, well, I'm hooked! I love the deep muzzle and velvety looking coat. What's his temperament like? I love big blue Great Danes but I haven't got room for a horse! I think I also have a bit of an obsession for blue/grey pets. I was convinced I wanted a weinerama (spelling?) and my last cat was a British Blue. OCD arhhhhh......!

Can't be doing with drool. I've just been researching them and have the vets bills keeps coming up again and again. Also says they are antisocial at times. Look stunning though. I don't want to get the wrong pet for us, it needs to be spot on and be part of the family. I must admit, your little black pug looks lovely. Just not sure about bulging eyes (do they weep?) and breathing probs in heat.

Dogs that have I have considered so far:

Labradoodles (like the chocolate wavy ones seen in the UK but they all look too poodley and wooly in Perth)

Chocolate Lab - Handsome and a good all rounder, loves water but very common?

weinerama - mesmerising to look at, blue ghosts. But maybe too skinny and hyper. Someone on here has one and advised caution. I'd love to be corrected.

German pointer - Elegant and calm but masses of exercise?

Beagal - beautiful and so soft but runs off and hard to train

Portuguese Water Dog - great for the beach and pool, not too big.

Staffy - small and compact, comes in blue, wonderful family pet but always seems to have its mouth open panting. Not sure if it is soft enough. Not keen on water?

Just like choosing an a area to live in, you can't do it from just researching it on the web. You need to see it in person. I want to meet these breeds and see which ones I fall in love with. My head will lead me in the right direction but it has to be my heart that confirms that logical thinking.

Anyone have experience of any of these and could give advice?

The eyes don't weep but the breathing is hard for the black one as his nose is so snubbed he can't walk more than 20 mins and I usually end up carrying him part of the way home he also snores like a pig, but Pugs in general don't like too walk far. Our heat in the Uk has been fine so far.

The brown pug we rescued from a cats and dogs home, his eyes are a bit bulgy and are scared, where he has previously knocked them because of the bulge but they are very loving .

I know now someone with a labradoodle "Dolly" and she is lovely very friendly great with children and I think my friend said that they don't malt .x
