Helynn McCallum
Hi. Some advice please about what category on the SOL list is best to apply for. I can either apply for Early Childhood Teacher or Primary Teacher...the latter is restricted to WA and NT where as ECT is available in most states! Would like to settle in Victoria or WA but need a job before I go out. I am applying for a 190 visa. What's best please?
nikkiwd
Hi, both those occupations are on WA's list but both are schedule 2 meaning you need a job offer first. The problem with schedule 2 occupations is that a few people on this forum have lodged their EOI for state nomination with schedule 2 occupations and most have heard nothing back after months and they have job offers. The best option is to go for the 189 independant visa as Early Childhood Teacher is on this list and you don't need a state to nominate you and you can live in whichever state you like. Do you have the 60 points required without the 5 you would have got from state nomination?
Helynn McCallum
Hey! Thanks for the advice and cannot believe people have job offers and yet to hear back about EOI!! I am 5 points short of the 189 visa and gutted I can't go through this route. 190 lets me not go regional however which I don't want to do as I have a young family. Still a bit unsure about what to do though.
Cleowag
Hi. Could you bump your points up with getting a high score on IELTS?(no pressure!) This is how my hubby got his visa on a 190 as we were falling short of points. Don't know if the same points process applies to 189? He's a teacher too, lucky we got our visa grant last year and although we are hoping to go very soon, he's not holding out much hope of getting a teaching job! Hope you find a way, there usually is. We did a migration assessment with an agent for a small fee and they really helped with all the ways and means we could get the visa. Once they'd explained it, we completed the rest of the process without an an agent. So I'd echo maybe speaking to one first off. Good luck! verystormy
Is ECT on the sol? I know primary teacher is only on the CSOL. So, a 189 as a primary teacher would not be possible as only on the CSOL.
nikkiwd
Yes it is stormy just checked. Helen like mentioned already can you not get more points from IELTS? Whats your points breakdown? Have a search through the threads for 'schedule 2' and hopefully you will find the people who are still waiting for invites, it doesn't sound like its the best route to go down if at all avoidable
