7cdb
Hello gang, I'm pretty sure what the obvious answer is,but I just need to clear things up in my tiny blokes mind:biggrin: I am 42,partner Anne is 36 and Callum is 21 months The visa process so far.... I have past the skills assessment for refrigeration mechanic all sorted and got results through from Vetesses Ielts I got an average of 7.5 on first go and been told by agent that 489 is a goer but they have advised that 8's would be and advantage as I could get PR 190 if the 8's were achieved. I have booked a 2nd IELTS for 6/9/14 but I am winging it a little as work is so busy,we are also getting married in November so all that to sort out,by the time I'm home, family time etc the day is done! I am realistically looking at below 8's but will obviously give it a good go. We have been told by our agent that the costs and time frames for either 489 or the 190 are roughly the same so no advantage there! But I do know that the 190 visa is the "better" of the two visas to have. If we just went for the 489 to stop the agonising over the IELTS saga, what do we have to do when we are over there ? Has anybody gone for PR from temp visa? Looking at the different areas,it's not a problem having to live down near Mandurah as Perth is too expensive and we want beach and parks not city living. Would it be better to just go over on 489 and sort PR when we are over there or better to keep trying this end?? cheers
verystormy
I would research the availability of jobs in mandurah. Though I think they will be fine given the massive amount of house building taking place. The 489 isn't a temp visa. It is a provisional visa which once you have complied with the conditions - 2 years living in a regional area and working in the regional area for 1 year - becomes permanent. Personally, I would give the ILETS one more shot as a 190 just gives you more flexibility but if you cant then get 8's, go for the 489. 7cdb
Cheers VS,yeh IELTS is booked anyhows so I might aswell give it a go. I just wanted to make sure 489 is ok to go on really. Ok for schooling for a while yet. Also by the time we get out there I will be used to filling in endless amounts of paperwork so a bit more shouldn't be a problem. We really wish we had spent some time around Mandurah when we was over there. We went everywhere else to have a look around but not Mandurah!! Work, I'm not worried about too much. I have looked after chillers from a deli counter to fresh beef chillers with 300 a day cattle in them and most stuff inbetween. I'm looking forward to a few months off whilst I'm retraining. Ps I hope your dog is ok
nikkiwd
hi 7cdb, haven't checked recently but I remember a few months ago the allocation of 489 visas was really low, something like only 50 invites given per month...I will go and see if I can confirm this
nikkiwd
ok just checked skillselect, WA only gave out 15 invites for 489 in July as opposed to 138 invites for 190 visas. I think they offer invites by who has highest points first so you may wait a while for an invite if there are limited places. http://www.immi.gov.au/Work/Pages/SkillSelect/results/11-august-2014.aspx
Ernie10
We originally set out on the 190 route I am 44 so needed 8s in ielts after 4 attempts I reached 7.5 in all sections so we changed to the 489 . I had 60 points and received an invitation straight away at the time they were inviting 50 . I would stick it out a couple of more times with the ielts with the option that if you feel 8s are not going to happen you have a plan B . We arrive in dawesville on the 7 th sept mike

We have never been city people so being out of Perth is no problem. With work, I will probably end up being mobile so travelling around a fair bit anyhow. Have a great trip over and please let us know how Dawesville is.
