ninny
My OH has completed the vetassess skills assessment and we are looking into the EOL (its been a long process to get here and have a UK qual converted to Aussy one!!). I have been getting some conflicting information re the points system as i have been told that we would automatically be awarded point for English due to being British passport holders, the government sites state they we don't need the IELTS exam.My main question is would we automatically recieve point for English as we are British citizens? If not, we may need to take the exam to up the points we score. Thanks, Ninny
DyLeB
As a UK passport holder you meet the competent English requirement equivalent of having IETLS of 6, but No points are awarded. if you require points for English ability you need to sit the IELTS and gain scores of all 7's or all 8's in each section for 10 or 20 points. ninny
Thanks for the quick answer.... I was going round in circles myself online looking for the answer!! We may need an extra 5 points to go for the 189 instead of 190 as oh occupation is now in schedule 2, which looks like nobody is getting sponsorship invites without an actual job offer at EOI stage! Thanks again ?

Thanks, Ninny Hi Ninny, I have just been awarded a 190 visa and I am English but I had to sit the IELTS exam with a pass mark in each section of 8 or above (9 is the highest). I was not awarded any points for this but I was told that it was a requirement of my visa being accepted. Please also be aware that the exam result is only valid for 12 months and as the visa process can be fairly long you might want to take it at a later date. I have spoken to a few people where they were asked different things and awarded different points but this was my experience.

mabbutt
Hi Jielts, I completed the IELTS test as part of my application and I found it quite challenging. Even though I am English and have a good education the way that the test is structured makes it easy to get a lower mark than you'd expect. As an example the audio part of the test can move quite quickly and you cannot stop it so you have to write your answer as the next part of the question is being played. There are numerous examples of the test online and I would recommend taking them as many times as possible so that you are familiar with the format. https://www.ieltsessentials.com/global/prepare/freepracticetests As long as you are well prepared and don't go in thinking that it will be easy then you should be fine! Good luck Edited October 16, 2015 by mabbutt Added link
Scotty
Ninny - Book IELTS asap and start studying. I have a degree but I still studied for 6 weeks before it. They are only run every month or 2 and it takes another month to get results. Some people take 3, 4 or even 5 attempts.
