Give me a break!
Well after 4.5 years we are off back to Blighty in 3 weeks. Not going to lie its for the OH's sake to visit family and attend his Brothers wedding. We had planned visiting a few places whilst there but it looks like its all going to be swallowed up with visiting people! Have you been back yet and how long before you did? Did you enjoy it and how did you manage your time?
annjean
My OH wanted to go back after 5 years after both his parents diagnosed with Alzheimer's, we went for 2 weeks sorted our house over there ready for sale and visited a few people, drove up to the Borders stopping in the Lakes District for a few days on the way, spent 4 days in Melrose before driving back to Northborough having few dinners out in local pubs, buying wallpaper etc before leaving to spend a week in Hong Kong on the way back, seemed a bit rushed but still had a good time. Plimthing
We are going back in December. Hopefully it will help us make up our mind whether to stay or go for good. I know for sure family members will be pulling on heart strings for us to come back, but we have to see through everything and make a decision for ourselves and the kids. Now my job has been taken of 2 SOL lists the only way we can stay is with employer sponsoring me, that in itself has taken the gloss off things as i wouldnt have freedom of a change of job for a while. So we are looking forward to december not sure we will enjoy it though..
Druid
Wifey is there now for a month, staying with her mother, she has had enough after a week and wants to come back, after 2 years she says nothing and no one has changed, I vowed not to return or visit until I'm a Pozzie and I'm sticking to it

ali
We've been here over seven and a half years and have no yearning to go back. We have, that being said, been lucky to have people come out to see us and maybe if they hadn't it would be different.

ryu2000
We have been back 3 times in three years. Australia is a nice place, going back to the UK and Europe makes us appreciate it more. The history, etc. Each country has its own merits. Honestly I would have said for him to go on his own to the wedding but we see so little of each other already I just couldn't do it to him. Its such a lot of money and feels a bit like I'm going backwards to be honest .

It's so funny because I've just said to him "I know it makes sense" .. but then I put my head in my hands and said "but I really don't want to do it. As he said it's a stop over and not a holiday - perhaps we can get everyone to come to us at the airport lol
odies
Nothing wrong with the Uk if you do not read the papers and listen to the news, you would think every city and town is bad. Lovely place to visit and reminisce , always remember it helped to make you be the person you are today. Lovely place to visit and reminisce , always remember it helped to make you be the person you are today. Ah its not that I don't like the UK I do, I never left because I dislike it but I'm very lucky in that I have never ever felt homesick. Maybe its to do with the fact that both my parents have passed and therefore I don't feel the draw anymore. I suppose I'm worried a little bit that I might like it a bit too much then come back homesick and unsettled or more likely my OH will. I kind of feel that if it isn't broke don't fix it and there is so much of Australia that I haven't seen yet. My OH would not forgive himself if he didn't go back for the wedding though so its a fate de complete really. I'm sure I will come back happy and content and having enjoyed my connection again............I hope Edited September 7, 2014 by Give me a break! Guest Guest6235
It may depend where in England you live that has a bearing on whether you like it or not. Maybe being close to things like nice scenery, attractions, ocean or a nice river to walk alongside might be a factor. It's Sunday and again my wife and I just cannot think of what to do near where we live. It won't bother us about missing the history of England and not being able to travel around Europe, afterall we only go into Europe on our two weeks holiday and that's not every year. We do like camping in the Dales, N.Y.M and the lakes but they are 1.5 - 3 hours away. In fact we do love the lake district .. lucky Bean!!
