cutchibear
But I have no idea how I should pack clothes for our container! Thinking about packing up some of our babas old baby clothes (with the long term plan of having another in Oz!) Think we will probably go down the MoveCube route as not taking too much....so whats the best way of transporting clothes to prevent them going smelly and stale? TIA x
<Dan>
We are having a company come in to pack ours, but I would say those Vacuum Pack Bags, but I hadn't thought about things going smelly etc.
Raychelsb
I've used the vacuum pack bags for all of ours which have a scent in them. We will see what they are like at the other end!

cutchibear
Cheers guys....shall check out argos @Druid How do they work? Also, could I vacum pack things now even though won't be sending til next summer? I'm a newbie to vacum packing!
cutchibear
@Gridstar was just concerned about things going stale if just boxed/in a suitcase like they do in the loft. Presume vacuum packs may help prevent this.

I'm a newbie to vacum packing! yes you can vacuum pack now, it's easy, you fill the bag up with clothes, you seal it with a zipper style seal, like a giant zip lock freezer bag, then you plug your vacuum cleaner into a special hole and suck all the air out, when it stops shrinking you are done, unplug your vacuum cleaner and place the plug (supplied) back over the hole, because there is no air or very little, things stay reasonable fresh, we still have vacuum packed stuff from 3 years ago, it's still good, wifey occasionally goes routing for stuff, the vacuums it back down again, saves a ton on storage space
Laz
I bought the Lakeland vacuum bags a few months ago (de-cluttering exercise prior to our house sale) and they didn't stay compressed for very long! They were still sort of squashed but there was air in there. And, they were the expensive vacuum bags! I''m sure it works but do your research (which I thought I did) before you buy the bags. <Dan>
I have had some good and some bad with vacuum bags, although the ones in the loft that are still squished I assume still smell nice. Although having not opened them and taken a big lung full I couldn't honestly tell you. Im sure in the next four weeks when our removals come I will do so
cutchibear
Thanks everyone! I'm guessing they will do a better job than simply putting them in a suitcase/box. And obviously they are an all important space saver!
DyLeB
Some shippers don't like you using the vaccum pack bags as the clothes can get moldy, due to the heat inside the container travelling for so long, they can build up with condensation. If you are going to use them prob recommend putting silica gel packs inside them. I vacumme packed baby baby clothes to put up the loft they didn't stay vacuumed very long. All of ours made it, still vac packed and shipped in the heat of summer in the Australasian area anyway, I suppose if there is any moisture from clothes not being dry properly and then vac packed you are asking for problems, the Argos vac packs we bought come with an underbed storage bag too, so once vac packed you pop them in this other bag zip it up then slide it under your bed, or if you have drawers in your bed it fits nicely in them, just watch the weight, it's deceiving how heavy they get. However, they didn't even last three months. I see there's a reviewer who said the same thing and gave them one star. I will try again....not sure what makes them anti mould!? Druid
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/8754918.htm This is what we bought, 3 years on still going strong, a lot of UK winter bedding is still stored in them no problems, think we have 4 of them in total, I thought we bought them in packs of 3, 1 huge as shown and two smaller, maybe I'm wrong
