Hi All,

Not been on here for a while. I'm a stay at home Dad until we go so haven't had much time to myself!

I'm sorting out my teacher registration at the moment and had a quick question for all you fellow teachers out there. All my documents are ready to be certified but I was a bit unclear on who can certify them in the UK. I was hoping to use a Deputy Head Teacher I know. I'm not sure if they have to be a WA teacher though. On the TRBWA website it gives a full list of people who can certify documents which includes a teacher but it states if overseas you may use a justice of the peace or public notary. I'm not 100% clear on this. I used my Doctor for the AITSL skills assessment.

For those of you who did this in the UK, who did you use?

Thanks

Dave

I used a friend of ours who is a solicitor. I didn't think the website was particularly clear though when I was seeing who could do it. My advice is to send every possible document you can think of off with your application, I'm sure I sent too much but my registration went through really quickly. Good luck! What do you teach?

Thanks @Nicos7. I think I'll use my Deputy Head mate and see what happens. Ive got loads to send too, everything I used for AITSL plus statements of service etc so hopefully should be ok. I teach ICT and Computing up to A Level. I've taught Business Studies and lower school maths in the past too. How about you?

hi, I'm a primary teacher and moved over to WA 5 weeks ago. I sent off all my documents and had a solicitor friend certify them. Not sure about using a UK teacher. Mine went through pretty quickly too. Have you looked on the WA jobs board. It updates regularly with education jobs. If I can help let me know : )

Thanks @aligard. I thought about going to my solicitor but she will probably charge a fortune. The Yorkshireman in me is trying to get something for nowt. After all it will get lost in the swim of the cost of moving. I've set up a job alert from the WA jobs board. Out of interest how long did your registration take?

you should be ok for a job then?

Applied for lots so far, had a couple of interviews on Thursday. One was for a pool and was successful in that one but no actual vacancy yet. Other was for actual job but not heard back yet. Another school has requested references so will see what happens there.

Good Luck! Are you in Perth now or you getting interviews from UK? Do some schools interview via Skype? We plan to come out around Easter but if I could miraculously get a job from here we'd come earlier. Thought this would be impossible though. I guess Maths is in demand though.

We are still in England. Same as you- if I get a job in the next few weeks then we'll come out at xmas if not deffo Easter time.

Interviews were done over phone and only consisted of 2 or 3 questions which you get in advance!

Hey DD, I'm in the TRBWA process now, I got all my docs certified by a solicitor and sent them off but got an email saying they were not certified by an appropriate person, after some communication, they confirmed it had to be a notary public from overseas. I've had them redone and sent, had confirmation they were received and are now being processed. I'd seen people on here say a solicitor was enough before, but it may depend on who opens your mail at the other end!! -£200 :skeptical:

I teach Secondary Maths, and hope to be out in Perth end of November.

Thanks @The Duroses. It looks like a might have to go down this route too. I'm going to give them a call on Monday and get a definitive answer.

Oooh and just had a look on the TRBWA site and I'm registered!! I was a bit worried as my degree isn't in Maths and had also heard that would prevent me being recognised as a Maths teacher, even though my PGCE was Maths. Anyway, it has gone through only two days after they received the 'correctly notified' docs, so was quite quick. Another thing off the list!! all the best with yours.

That was quick, congratulations. Did the whole thing take less than 10 weeks as stated on their website?

Yeah, it was really quick. The only delay was the post, took 3 weeks to get there (track and trace). They are really efficient to be honest, I went back and forth with questions about a few things but the replies were always quick and helpful.

Hi, oh we're loving it! Such a beautiful place. We're moving into our ' proper' rental in two weeks time, can't wait. I'm getting relief work every day and my phones ringing most days for more than I can do. Hope it continues : ) there's lots of it and maths jobs on the wa websites at the mo. Good luck everyone! X

Oh well done, hope it goes well and you get one. Fingers crossed. There seems to be a huge demand for maths teachers here : )

Nice one Alison, glad you're getting teaching work, is it all around the Mandurah area or are you travelling a little?.

Has your husband found anything yet? I bet it's a world away from Anlaby!

Did anyone include statements of service in their certified documents? I plan to include the following:

passport page, drivers licence and credit card for 100 point ID check and then

Degree certificate

Degree transcript

PGCE certificate

PGCE transcript

Letter from Uni stating I did more than 45 days teaching on placement

UK Police Certificate

AITSL skills assessment

Have I missed anything? I was going to include my QTS and induction certificates from the GTC but I think they are irrelevant for Oz.

Thanks

Dave

Hi! The beaches are a lot nearer! We love it. Everything is is at a slower pace, everyone is incredibly friendly. The furthest I've travelled is 10 minutes from home : ) Hubbie still on the lookout for maintenance work. Good luck with your interview!

Have you found the schools better to teach in as in they concentrate more on actual teaching rather than all the other politics that go with it.
