I'm two weeks in and have managed to tick all the boxes in terms of practical things tfn done✔ bank sorted✔Medicare yup✔ even have a car and somewhere to stay short term and have been out exploring the area and up until yesterday I felt fantastic. Yesterday hit a brick wall. Today I'm questioning my sanity. Why did I do this? Anyone else felt like this ? Is this "normal"?

Keep strong and Godspeed,

Remember, you have done something which takes so much courage.

You decided to up roots and do it, instead of just talk about it, you SIR'S i take my hat off too.

Keep the beers cold, be proud of your self and keep that chin up very very high, you actually did it!!!

Thanks so much for the support. Despite the meltdown yesterday I'm looking forward to this adventure. Though I think I'm just getting a sense now of what a roller coaster ride it is.

It's a beautiful place to be and I've met some lovely people so far I'm sure you're right verystormy once routines set in it ll feel better. Right now it's all a bit up in the air.

michealr we ll be on the other side of this someday soon I hope and passing on our support and wisdom to others (fingers crossed it's not too long)

xx

I think it's really normal, would be strange not to miss it at all as it has been such a big part of your life for so long. We're 4 months in and have good days and bad days but when I think what it is I'm missing it's definatley the people and not the place. Perth has so much to offer and is so beautiful and at the moment I can't imagine returning to the UK any time soon and as people can travel we will end up with the best of both worlds! Skype and facetime have been a god send too! X x

Yeah bridges I agree wholeheartedly it's definitely the people I ll miss. All of this has been a huge journey for me as I'm sure it is for so many people. I fell in love with aus 20 years ago and knew I wanted to come here to live one day (just didn't expect it to take so long) I started the visa process 2/3 years ago and took 6 months to get my visa, I then went through the process of adopting a child whom I'd cared for for many years. I couldn't imagine my life without this gorgeous funny child. So then I had to sort out her adoption and visa. All the processes went to plan but it felt like it was going on forever and I'd never actually get here. Then eventually it was time for the big move and all the goodbyes and endings ... these were harder than I thought - the worst was leaving my son in Scotland to continue his studies. I know this is the right thing for me and my daughter (and my son ) I know it's something I've always wanted so I guess that's why it felt odd to be having a meltdown in the mall bawling my eyes out.

Its good to know though that I'm not alone on my emotional roller coaster and thanks Steve p for giving me a time frame for when I should expect that to ease lol. Thank goodness for Skype and social media. Hats off to the people who done this many years ago without such luxuries. Xx

It will get better. It's the people I miss too but the best thing is to get out and about, say yes to any invite or offer of friendship and as people here become more familiar you'll start to feel heaps better; just give it some time

Ps I was a blubbering mess the first 6 weeks but now I'm really enjoying it here and I'm making lots of friends! One of my new besties, who's an Aussie, wrote in my birthday card this week that it was like we'd known one another forever and there was no way she was letting me leave!

Elaine - no wonder you're feeling the way you do sounds like you've been through a lot. I'm sure it will get easier the more settled you get.

Lou - hopefully we'll meet one day! Still aiming to get to the October meet. Glad you're all settled now x

It would be lovely to meet @Bridges! There's plans to meet met Sunday at Point Walter although well have to monitor the weather this week and the forecast isn't great! At least it'll give me a chance to finish painting my furniture...I've started but not finished.

Hi Elaine, how you're feeling is perfectly normal. I've been here just over a year and still question my sanity!! I live in Clarkson so not far from you if you want to meet up for a coffee or chat feel free to contact me. I know how lonely it can be when you first arrive. I don't know what age your child is but I have a 11 year old daughter and we're always looking to make new friends
