Guest Damon
I know finding a British Pub in Perth is a bit of a holy grail to some people, certainly it is for me, but I've been thinking recently; how hard would it be to make one? Has anyone else had an idea to create a British Pub in Perth and to sell ale at cellar temperature? I'm watching quite a bit of UK drama at the moment and can't help noticing how many pub scenes there are in episodes of Cracker and Morse. Amazing, all this time living in the UK prior to moving to Oz, I've never realised what a hidden gem exists in the UK. Would love to hear from people who are passionate about the British Pub culture and how they're coping in Perth.
Druid
Even the cellars here get warm in summer, nothing like a nice cold beer when it's 45 degrees outside, a warm one would just not go down well, mad for the pub culture, I miss the beer gardens in the summer, nothing like that here, closest I found is sitting outside at the Moon & Sixpence or Sovereign, not exactly a beer garden
annjean
You might like to check out The Elizabethan Village pub 25 Canns Rd Bedfordale a village that was designed on Shakespears birthplace ( there is a beer garden) and the Last Drop Tavern a Tudor design also in Bedfordale 40Klm South East of Perth in the Perth Hills. rob-c
The closest we've found is the Parkerville tavern in Parkerville, just outside Mundaring lovely big beer garden with lots of green and trees, animals for the kids to look at in the top corner, good food menu at sensible prices, wood fired pizza oven in the garden at weekends, log fire in the bar for winter. On a quiet road in the hills, been a few times on a Saturday lunch time, busy and lively in the garden, closest to a 'country pub' we've found
ali
Not really looked for one to be honest and wouldn't necessarily be drawn by it.
Bibbs
What do you class as a 'British' pub? Inner city Weatherspoons? Selling 'cheap' 'Australian' larger, smokers outside in the cold, smell of BO and cheap aftershave and the nightly closing time fight? Or a pub in the middle of nowhere, selling rubbish food, 37 types of bitter, and a beer garden full of sunburnt kids and wasps? Perth is mainly bars. There are a few places that are more pub than bar though. Plenty of places to sit outside with a pint in the city, even though land space it at a premium. Plenty of pubs in the suburbs too. Give me a break!
Nah give me a bar with a beautiful sea view or a riverside bar. The Irish Bars a good I reckon but then I'm not into beer but I do like a nice Guiness occasionally.

I like Irish bars too ... but don't drink guiness - they always seem to have a good atmospher
