Gillbabe
Hi can any one help please, I am a qualified paramedic with nine years experience working with a UK ambulance service looking to emigrate to Perth. We already have three daughters living there, one with a PR and the other two on working visas with a hope to settle. Our best option is for a 457 through ambulance service, but they are not recruiting at moment, other option, when two girls have PR, is parent migratory but I believe this will cost £80,000!! I am very experience, fit and healthy with many work years left in me, can anyone sign post me with options. I am willing to re train if necessary, work remote or work in teaching pre hospital health care. My husband spent twenty years running a corporate catering business and would also require sponsorship. Gill

Gillbabe
Hi Derbygirl42, Yes, we were the family wanting to go down under, our grandaughter is now 2 1/2, unfortunately Australia are reluctant to have us oldies there even though we are fit and well. We won't give up though, if its meant to be we will be there eventually, just wish I was at least ten years younger.
DyLeB
With your age, if you want to move to Australia permanently the Parent contributory visas are likely your only option processing is around 18-24 months. 457 visas are only temp and to meet the age exemption you need to meet the high income threshold for 4 years to be eligible to apply through employer sponsorship, with is currently around $129,000. they have recently re-opened the normal parent visas, costs a lot lower but I think processing was estimated at about 30 years. odies
hi, we have had to bite the bullet and pay, it is roughly £48 k plus £7k bond it takes 18 months to get the visa but you can then work and hopefully help to pay a bit of the visa cost off. Not much help sorry. it is a 143 parent visa
DyLeB
There is the option to split it and go on to the temp visa first 173 for 2 years this also splits the cost so could save up the rest of the money once in Australia and working. Derbygirl42
Ah I loved your programme my sister lives in Joondalup so I watched it a few times ! I remember your granddaughter as my daughter is an Olivia too. I really hope you get there you genuinely came over as such a lovely family. I know you won't give up - best of luck to you, keep the faith and I'll keep everything crossed. We are currently trying for a 489 FS hope to be there sometime next year. Daveakaginge
Yep, they don't like us oldies. We are here on a 457, chances of remaining are so remote, even though we are self sufficient. Our only option, is to fly to Asia, and return by boat!!!!!!!!
verystormy
To be honest, the only real way is going to be the constributary parent visa. It is expensive but if you want to make it a permanent move then that is going to be the only way. A 457 would not be a good option as going on to gain PR over 50 is very difficult and as a paramedic you would be very unlikely to be able to meet the criteria - one of which is to have a salary over a certain mount which is about $130k. If if two of your children are only in oz on temporary visas, then you will also need to wait until at least one of them gains pr in order to pass the balance of family test. It may be worth running your case past a good agent to come up with a strategy. Go Matilda will do an assessment for free.
Gillbabe
Is that cost for two people or single applicant and was the process difficult. Am I right in saying you cannot apply for parent visa until 50% of your children have permanent residency, sorry for the questions but nice to hear from someone who has actually been through the process. Any advice would be helpful
DyLeB
Your looking at about $100,000aud of couple. 50% of children need to be living permanently in Australia the sponsoring child settled ie living in Australia for at least 2 years. There is a sticky thread running on Poms in Oz majority of people applied for PCV.
odies
Hi, the cost i wrote is for 2 people , you will need the balance of family test ie 1 in oz i in uk or 2 in oz 1 in uk etc.etc..I am 16 months in, waiting is the worst part, I expect to hear in January as when reading the parent visa thread on poms in oz they seem to be getting a visa passed between 18 and 22 months as that dept. is very busy. odies
Had to find the wanted down under to see who you were, lovely family so i hope it works out for you. I did not say but I found the process so far fairly easy to do ie paperwork etc. it is the waiting to know ,1 if I have done everything right, 2 passed the medical ,3 actually got the visa that is costing an arm and a leg, that is the worst. We have 2 grandsons there 1 is 5 and 1 is 3 , after my last visit on facetime the youngest said miss you nana, out of the blue with no prompting broke my heart. Steely
We have decided to take the 143 route......it's costly, but then again we reckon worth the cost, as the next adventure for us can then begin......mind you we did get the following update from our agent today, so when we will get the visa we don't know, but we have set our goal for Xmas 2015 :-) We have lodged for a parent visa 143, and had the following update from our agent today also: DIBP have advised the following: “As we have a 5 month backlog of applications waiting for acknowledgment letters, we now have a task force in place so this time will gradually reduce. Currently we are sending out letters for applications lodged on 24 April 2014.” As your application was lodged on 30th May 2014, you are still well within their guidelines. Lou8670
My MIL is currently in the queue for a contributory parent visa. On applying in September 2013 we calculated the total cost for her and hubby to be $103k. Obviously the exchange rate has moved considerably since she first applied. Originally it was going to cost her £75k but that has now come down. She's also opted to go for the temporary visa which allows you to split the costs. This works for her as she has some funds available but not all until she sells her house and she doesn't want to do that until she knows Australia will let her in. If she gets her visa then she can apply for the permanent visa in Australia and has to do this within 2 years. It's worth mentioning he visa costs about $4.5k (when I last looked) for a main and secondary applicant. It's the contribution and assurance of support that are the expensive bits. You don't have to pay these on application, only the visa fee, but they recommend you have the remaining funds available as they say they can request them at any time. It would be worth you talking to a registered migration agent as we can only tell you our experience and not provide advice. Good luck and hope you find a work around to get you to Oz.
