Days out in Perth

So having been here for 10 weeks I thought that it may be worth us all sharing in days out. I've still got so much to do but will start with sharing that I have purchased a season pass for ADVENTURE WORLD. This will tide me through the coming long summer school holidays I hope! It cost 365 bucks for a season pass for the family. We have been today and quite enjoyed the day to be fair. The discount on the food and drink of 20% made a difference and was reasonably priced though lots of people took picnics. The water was quite cold today as I assume that the temperature is reliant on the sun warming it up! The whole place is about the size of one section of Alton Towers. There are rides for all ages. The little ones can only go on some of those if they reach the 90 cm height criteria.

There are lots of options for water play, with various age group areas which seems to work well. All in all we will be going again. It will take 3 visits for us to break even for the season pass, but a point of note is that if you happen to know someone who has a season pass already, you can go with them and get 50% off ticket admission price ;)

So, I have arrived home and researching our next family day out. I discover that there is a book available for 65 bucks called THE ENTERTAINMENT BOOK. This gives lots of value in many areas. You can go online and search to check out the savings you may be able to make. So with a trip to THE MAZE and SCITECH (where the offer is buy one get one free) the book will already have paid for itself. Happy Days!

Please share any of your own bargains and experiences for days out. We all have those summer holidays coming up, and I for one would be happy to receive your tips!

That's sounds great, I love the cinema too. Just discovered that optus do $10 cinema tickets if you have a phone contract with them. You can order them from their website. I will keep adding to this thread as I make new discoveries, it seems no one else has made any, cba to share, or maybe I'm just wasting my time. Still if it helps one person then its a thread that would have helped me :) and PP is helpful if nothing else.

There seem to be lots of families who go cycling along the cycle paths. This was something I would not have considered doing in England. There are many offers for cheap mountain bikes from 89 dollars at places like Big W to from 299 dollars to 2000 dollars at Anaconda (which reminds me of decathlon) all the way through to specialist shops for the really sophisticated kit. There are also options on gumtree and ebay of course. We managed to buy a tow along seating trailer for the little one. These are fairly easy to fit to the bike frame and my boy loves being towed in his 'tent'. Provides for a cheap day out, a bit of exercise and an adventure. So far so good.

Glad to hear that the info has been useful. :)

Yanchep is a good day out you can get a pass that lasts a year there is kangaroos and Koala bears there and there is walks to go on also.

Cheers Deb, my friend who lives in Yanchep told me about the national pk there, I couldn't believe how cheap it was ($20) for a years pass. This would be something we would do as we like a good stroll. We do a lot of walking in UK and somewhere like a national trust site would be far more expensive.

Mine love AQWA too. The underwater shark tunnel is amazing. The cafe isn't too bad and there is free wifi too ( helpful when you first arrive & haven't got internet yet) it is also an option to upgrade for regular reductions on ticket price on the day. I love the fact that it is built into the sea. There seems to be so much more room for the residents to swim around in. A lovely day out and recommended

I really liked the Yanchep park but I wouldn't build it up in your mind to be anything like a national trust wonder round. It is more like a large open space with a gift shop, tea room, dried up lake (since the water levels have dropped), a natural looking enclosure with koalas in trees, wild kangaroos lazing around in the heat and an aboriginal activity space/ craft table section. We got annual tickets and will be back for a half day out with BBQ or picnic. The caves were interesting as they kept the focus on our impact on the environment. But for those that have been to cheddar gorge, these will seem very small, but interesting.

i enjoyed a couple of hours wondering around the royal mint. We saw a bar of real gold being poured, fascinating.

Loved going to the public art gallery and the museum in Perth. Brilliant for kids, although mine got fidgety in the gallery, but I guess I take too long in front of the paintings studying them, which frustrates my boys. An ice cream on the steps beside the gallery with a water feature they could play amongst was enough to reward them for their patience before heading to the child friendly museum.

In Yanchep park Is there walks you can go on was told there was.

When we went took a picnic and watch the kangaroos.

Been to Serpentine not as big but the Kangaroos are tame they will take food out of your hand and let you pet them.OH had one sitting like a dog waiting for food.

Couple of walks but not long ones.No cafe.

We have the pass for Yanchep too, we like it as its nice and peaceful with free bbqs, roos and Koalas. Also the wierd cafe that sells lots of chocolate and apparently the pub there (Yanchep Inn ) does a good Sunday Carvery although haven't tried it myself.

Another nice place is Araluen Botanic park, I think its near Roleystone in the Hills. Lovely and peaceful too and there is a little train/tractor that you can ride on that kids love. Its bit of a drive if you live NOR though.

We have a lake near us (Lake Goollelal) with a good cycle path all the way around it so took my son for a walk yesterday, he had his trike, and we were warned by a couple about the snakes...well what did we come accross...a snake, right by the path!

I think we are going to try a day out at The Maze soon so will post if its any good.

If you like water/the ocean, but you don't like how it gets deep pretty fast and/or you don't like waves then go to Hillarys (NOR). It's more crowded though. We don't have kids yet, but it seems like a perfect place for families with (really) young kids. It's a few minutes away from AQWA.

Or if you have a partner who doesn't want to get her hair wet ;P

Oh by the way. If you are into horse riding, but not doing it regularly, you can go to Ron's riding ranch on wanneroo road (NOR). Not sure what their reputation is, however the horses looked fine and the trails you can ride are beautiful. The horse I had was really mellow. Which is good, because it was my firt time on a horse lol. My OH is good at it, so she was leading and my horse just followed. I believe we paid 70 bucks per person for a two hour ride.

We found a good place for a walk and bit of history was at the john forrest national park. There's some waterfalls there and an old train track you can follow to the old tunnel. It's quite long, and cool for the kids to walk through. Take a torch though! we're planning a little road trip to a medieval fayre over in York this sunday. I've heard York's a nice place to visit, so though we'd give it a go.

York is nice, won't be everyones cup of tea but I thought the architecture was lovely and the place is steeped in history. Take a look inside the Town Hall, there's picnic areas near the river and a rickety rope bridge which is fun!

the Maze is a nice day out, I thought a bit expensive but surroundings are fab. Take a picnic. Now the WaterPark is open its even better...we are thinking of getting a season ticket for unlimited entry.

Yanchep National Park is lovely, we sometimes go up for an hour, walk round the lake (takes about 30 mins if you're brisk walkers) then have a drink at the pub in the beer garden. It's nice late arvo when the roos are out. Season pass is well worth it if you're up that way, only drawback..no dogs.

Agree re Araluen, would go more often if closer, absolutely stunning
