Anyone bought their own modem to use with Telstra broadband?

I've just signed up with Telstra for their home phone and broadband bundle. I'm having to pay for a technician to come out to re-activate the phone line, plus initial activation fee and a one off casual payment fee as I want a month by month contract rather than 24 month tie in. I would like to save some money by getting my own modem ( they charge about $200) - has anyone done this and can recommend a brand to get which works with Telstra?

Thanks :)

Any Netgear or DLink should work, but they going to cost you a couple of hundred dollars anyway, the only good thing is you dont have to stay with telstra, i bought an Apple Airport Extreme to extend the wi-fi coverage, its excellent, only let down by the modem supplied by Vivid, cant wait to get into the new house and get some decent internet speeds

Hi Raycelbs, I remember we were in touch months ago when my husband was sitting his ielts exams, and you were saying your husband is a carpenter aswell. Well firstly congratulations on making the move. I delighted to hear all worked out for you both. My husband did pass all his ielts exams and his skills assessment back in July. We have had our EOI in for the past 7 weeks so fingers crossed we hear in the next few weeks to lodge the final application. All going well hubby should be heading over February. Then well will follow once he's got himself sorted with work over there. I see your hubby went before you. Did he find it easy enough to get a job or did he have a job to go to? My husbandis going with the impression that with all the building going on that there has to be plenty of work out there. Would love to hear how your getting on and your thoughts on the place. We will be moving south around 45 mins from city to Mandurah x
