Raychelsb
I placed a homeline and broadband order with Telstra last week, have been told by several people all is well, just wait for the phone line to be connected and then the modem will be sent. Latest story is that we have failed due to credit. It is under my husbands name as he is the one who has been working since August, I start a new job in 2 weeks. I am finding this really frustrating as at the moment we are using mobile broadband and it's costing a lot for the amount of internet we use for facetime/Skype back home etc. Thanks
nikkiwd
have you tried iinet, it was pretty simple to set up online and it didn't take long either.
Raychelsb
Well due to our location, only iiNet and Telstra could provide broadband and after speaking to neighbours we opted for Telstra. I've been onto them again today and they've overwritten the credit fail and redone the order. They've told me the home line is connected now but I still have no dial tone,so I've got to wait 24 hours to see if it comes good and if not I will need a technician. I'm losing my patience with them.
FOL
Yeah Telstra is a pain in the ass with that! We had to take a lower plan (5GB limit!!!) for six months due to lack of credit history. So we wanted to pay more for a higher plan, but they simply didn't let us! Luckily their online upgrade service didn't have this limit. So I took a larger plan online and all was well
flatpack
It's a joke trying to get the Internet connected in some Northern suburbs! It took us bleeding ages to get connected and we didn't have the hassle of the credit check. all in all it took about 6 maybe 8 weeks and 3 different companies
Sideshowdeb
We didn't have any problems with credit but it took from middle of August until last Friday to get connected. Coincidentally the same day we finally got broadband our next door neighbours were disconnected :0/ We dealt with Telstra and Optus and they were both really difficult. I think it was our introduction to why they say WA stands for wait a while!
Raychelsb
Oh god flat pack I hope it doesn't take that long....they've ok'd the credit check now but I STILL have no dialtone. Who did you end up going with finally??
Raychelsb
Oh dear, it's not boding well for me to get this sorted quickly then. Maybe I should go through iiNet too and see who sets me up first?! I am spending a fortune in mobile broadband with Skype back home to two lots of families plus sorting things out for setting up online. flatpack
Our saga went like this. 1st call to Telstra, they asked me if there had been a phone there before. I explained I was new to Oz and had just moved in but there was a Telstra box outside and phone sockets inside. The operator asked me to plug a phone in to see if there was a dial tone, when I said I didn't have a phone they suggested I bought one!!!! They went on to say they didn't have any further capacity in my area for more broadband but I could go onto dial up (the 56k stuff where the modem squeals as it connects) and wait until a slot became available. 2nd call was to iiNet, they said they would have to get a Teslstra engineer to turn the phone back on (Telstra own the networks similar to BT) Telstra came and turned the line on but didn't connect it to the wires in the house. I kid you not, the wires were just coiled up in the box outside. I had to get a sparky to do it. I then waited 10 working days for the Internet to come on, the day is was supposed to come on I rang them at 8pm to say I hadn't got a modem or a username and password! There response to me was, hasn't sales rang you? I said no and enquires why. The said that they had tested my line and it wouldn't take ASDL2 and that I'd have to have the slower ASDL. Ok I said a bit miffed, I'll take that. They said that it would be turned on in 10 working days. I told them to stick it up their arses, forget the order and turn the phone off you bunch of clueless f@#twits. 3rd call to a cable company called Fuze (it was like a state secret trying to find out who's box this was). I say 3rd call but it was call 3,4&5 and each time I was on hold for over 30mins. When I finally got to talk to someone, I asked for my line to be activated, they said I could only apply by email! It was 4 weeks before they replied to me. 6th call was back to Telstra, this time the original halfwit must have been off ill as they sorted it pretty quick (by there standards) and the phone was activated pretty quick and the broadband 10 days later. Except the broadband didn't work, 4 hrs on the phone to some Indian call centre to a guy who can speak English but doesn't understand it! It culminated in me waiting another 5 days for an engineer to come out, he was lucky we were in as they said anytime in the next 5 days. He came on the last day about 4 pm. A very stressful time and I've shortened it a fair bit, the speed is nothing to write home about. That said, all new suburbs HAVE to be connected to the National Broadband Network which is supposed to be really good!

Martins
I placed a homeline and broadband order with Telstra last week, have been told by several people all is well, just wait for the phone line to be connected and then the modem will be sent. We signed up for a telstra bundle (phone, broadband and foxtel) great deal...... Called bk to speed up installation to be told there are no ports available so no broadband! We cancelled the deal. We then went to iinet who told us all would be ok with them. They sent a telstra person to install phone line which was already there. Then emailed to say surprise no ports available. I then got a $350 bill from them for the phone line!!!!! This was a nightmare, they were a joke. Long story short I posted my issues on their Facebook page and have now had the fee waivered as I was never told of them. We too were paying a fortune on mobile broadband!!! We are now with vivid wireless! Basically mobile broadband but it is unlimited for $79 per month which we feel is pretty good. May not be as fast as others but we use internet a lot and we really can't complain! Also customer service has been far better!!!
nikkiwd
sounds like we were lucky with iinet then, ordered phone/broadband/fetch tv bundle online and next day had confirmation emails etc. they sent someone to switch line on and a few days later our kit arrived in post and we had internet another couple of days later. All in all took under 2 weeks. Our only issue is the fetch tv is a waste of time as you have to upgrade to be able to watch anything, we just used to use the built in freeview on our tv. Raychelsb
Flatpack, your post has made me smile, not for the hassle you had, but the way it's written, I can tell you're from Halifax (If I remember right??) - Northern humour. So I got up this morning, thought plleeeaasse let the phone line be working....nope! So I reckon I am in for a saga too. I took to twitter last night - never tweeted in my life, but I put one on Telstra's page. I think I may take to facebook too as per Martins! I would love to get Vivid but on their webpage it says they don't cover where I live. So if Telstra don't sort it, I am stuck as I don't want to risk Iinet and get charged for something they can't offer me. And yes Keefo, we are skyping back to friends and family, as it's early days and people want to speak to see how we are getting on. Plus I have been using Telstra online chat which really eats up your data I have noticed. I don't want to use my mobile as it's prepaid and then I would have to keep topping that up. Guest Guest6235
I wasn't having a go @Raychelsb about skyping in the first few months as it's what we will want to do.....so it doesn't sound good that internet takes a while to rig up. No I didn't think you were Keefo. I was agreeing with you, it makes you clock watch when you're on Skype or FaceTime because you're thinking how much is this costing me?? We topped up $100 almost two weeks ago for 10gb of data with Telstra mobile broadband and we have just over 1gb today. And we are only browsing the Internet, not downloading videos or games or anything.

I know you've got jobs but that's not very good if you're browsing for work etc. It seems all the companies have good and bad points, so bit of a lottery. As someone else above said iiNet also tried to get me to pay $300 for connecting the phone but they got told where to go and they eventually agreed with me. We also tried Vivid in amongst that lot but the speeds were very poor so we cancelled it
Druid
Aaaah the joys of newbies in Perth trying to get internet, i have written some pretty lengthy posts about the subject, and hence why i stick to my completely reliable VIVID system, dowsnt matter where i move to in perth, i plug in my vivid home gateway, sling my extra aerial out of the window and within a matter of seconds and $60 month later, I have unlimited broadband with enough bandwidth for two people to be on skype at the same time. Welcome to Perth, back to 1999 with a third world insternet system
Raychelsb
Yeh thanks for the sympathy Druid. Are you on commission for vivid by any chance?
Druid
Yeh thanks for the sympathy Druid. Are you on commission for vivid by any chance? Search my thread on my IINet saga, at least telstra had the honesty to say no, they cant help me from the initial phone call, now i just stick with vivid, until my house is built that is, then i will have to try getting connected to the NBN through our 'fibre estate' cant wait for that saga, vivid in the meantime is not the quickest 4G, but it is the cheapest, the equivelent with telstra cost a small fortune and we can do what we need to with it, my son is not happy coz he cant do online gameing, but we downlaod & stream movies etc, it good enough, also the support over east is brilliant, unlike telstra who share an office with BT in bangladesh
Raychelsb
And I've just had an email from Telstra for a bill for $125! For what I've no idea! Wish we could get vivid it would be ideal for our usage and a great price too.
Daveakaginge
I have to smile, sorry, really sorry!!! I had four months of hassles with Telstra, before I got it sorted, they have a terrible reputation on customer service. Good luck all.
