Converting Garage - Council Approval

Confused

Recommended Posts

Hi

Has anyone any experience with building control in Perth?

We are considering moving to Perth, but we will need to have a photography studio for my wife.

We are concerned there may be insufficient space on the land to build. Alternatively, one possibility is to convert the double garage (most houses seem to have them) and replace the traditional garage door with bi-fold glazed doors. However, I am unsure whether the council would object.

Does anyone have any experience whether the councils would typically have any objection? Would some councils look at these more favorably than others?

Thanks

Paul

You would need council permission as you are changing the look of the exterior with more windows,

a lot of new estates have clauses saying you must have a min 4 beds, 2 bathrooms and double garage, so not sure on that one, try enquiring through the local council of the area you are looking at.

You would need permission, and hard to say on the likelihood of getting it.

Another option ion would be to build. We were in a similar position as my wife needed a large art studio. So, we came up with a design by modifying a standard builders design - we don't have children, so, had the house built with two of the bedrooms built as a single big room with extra windows.
