KJAY
Hi there, I was wondering if anyone might be able to offer some advice based on a similar experience. My partner and I lodged an onshore defacto application last May (I am an Aus citizen) and are waiting on a decision to be made. He is currently on a Bridging Visa e with no work rights, so we are dependent on my income alone. We submitted a request for work rights based on financial hardship, as my salary doesn’t cover our basic needs plus I am 6months pregnant due to go on maternity leave in May which is completely unpaid, so we will soon have no income at all. We do have a small amount of savings (approx. $2k) but it’s not going to last very long. It’s been nearly 4weeks since we requested work rights and still haven’t heard anything, so I’m starting to get really worried that they might not actually be granted. Has anyone been through or know someone that has been granted work rights on a bridging visa e? Thanks a mil
verystormy
Have you tried calling immi?
KJAY
Have you tried calling immi? Yep, a few times - sat on hold for nearly an 1hr30 on both occasions. They told me to email the partner processing centre requesting our application is considered urgently based on compelling circumstances which I've done. As it is just the general inquiry email address, they can take two weeks to respond. So frustrating.
verystormy
Maybe pop into the immi office in Perth? I have been in a few times and found them helpful. Or, consult a good agent such as Go Matilda.
