Lisa VCH
We are just on our last day of two weeks in Perth. Realistically it's going to be two years before we can secure a visa, but we were hoping to narrow down possible suburbs and put names down on waiting lists (you never know). All the suburbs with good public schools seem to be very expensive and I calculated that it's cheaper to send the kids privately and live further out. Before coming out our focus was on Baldivis, which we did like the look of. There's Tranby College but I don't know what the local opinion is on the new high school. We also liked Lakelands, but have been warned that Mandurah is a mixed bag. But when we drove through Joondalup I thought it looked fab. The school, Lake Joondalup Baptist College looks amazing (online). The problem is that house prices up there seem very high, as well as the school itself being more expensive. Does any one have any knowledge about any of these schools? I've had a fab holiday but feel like I've not made much progress! Thank you for your help. ali
If you're not coming out for 2 years then I wouldn't worry too much, there may very well be new suburbs by that time, Harrisdale for example has become enormous in a short space of time and Byford is still expanding. Lou8670
I can understand that if you want your children in private school you want to put their names down as soon as possible because of waiting lists. Before you do this though you really need to decide on the area you want to live in and, as Ali has said above, Perth and its suburbs are growing all the time and new ones are popping up. There are other private schools accessible from the Rockingham/ Mandurah area besides Tranby. I have friends with kids at Tranby and they're very happy with the school. I have other friends who don't rate it so highly (but then they also don't have kids there). Lots of kids take the bus or train to school including Living Waters, South Coast Baptist, Mandurah Catholic, Frederick Irwin, Kolbe Catholic, Peter Carney etc.
Lisa VCH
Thank you for your replies, I think that when you have kids you want to have it all sorted ASAP but it's probably better to have another look when we get back and relax a bit. I think I will put their names down for MBC and just see what happens... Thanks again :-)
