HR in Perth

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone

my husband & I visited Perth last month and completely fell in love with the place. So much that we are planning on going to stay on a one year working visa in September. We need to wait until September because I am currently in my last year of Post Graduate studies for HR Management. My final exam is in September :)

I have worked in HR for 6 years in a HR coordinator/advisor role. This is the type of work I would be looking for in Perth. I have downloaded Seek to see what jobs are on the market and have been trying to connect with HR professionals on LinkedIn. Is there anything I could do whilst in the UK to help improve my chances of finding a role before we come to Perth. I believe we are restricted to only working for 6 months with each employer on the working visa as well. Do many companies sponsor you so you an stay longer?

Is there any one on the forum who moved to Australia and persued a HR career as I would love to talk to you.

Hi there Pamela

I moved to Australia about 7-8 years ago, on a skilled migrant visa and have always worked in HR. The only thing that you could start to do is familiarise yourself with HR and employment law in Australia as it might be something they ask you about at interview - and obviously it will help to say that you are already aware of the differences. You could also get yourself registered with the Australian equivalent of CIPD - its called AHRI (Australian Human Resources Institute) http://www.ahri.com.au so if you have CIPD membership back in the UK it's very similar.

The only other thing that I have noticed is highly desirable over here, is health and safety knowledge so if you can get any extra experience of that whilst you are in the UK you might find that handy.

I hate health and safety so it's not an area that I wanted to specialise in, but awareness of the australian system would again be handy.

good luck!
