Jo Golightly
Hi everyone, My husband and I and our two boys are moving to Perth. We haven't fully decided where as yet, but we are considering Mandurah. My husband is a bricky and we are awaiting our 189 visa . If all goes to plan we hope to be flying out in September (fingers crossed) Although this is something we've always talked about and I really do want to make the move its finally hit me that I have no idea what I will do when I get out there. My husband work prospects look good, from what we've heard. I've read a few threads and articles about how theirs not much work in WA .I am currently working as an unqualified Pre-School Assistant and I volunteer at my sons school listening to children read. If we had stayed in the UK my plan was to train to be a teaching assistant. Although it seems the courses are 3 times more expensive in oz so it's not really an option. I did work in day centres for adults with learning disabilities for nine years before I having children not really sure if that's something I'd want to get back into but I would if the hours were right . Is it hard to find work during school hours in the Mandurah area of perth? Sorry for for the overload of info nerves are setting in I think. many thanks
Scot01
The Mandurah area of Perth is like saying the Birmingham area of Leicester, Mandurah is a city in its own right over 40 miles from the centre of Perth. Work wise I think you might struggle with childcare/school work without any formal qualifications as there are so many qualified and WA experienced teacher assistants looking for work at the moment. Volunteering is a good way to get a foot int he door though and understand more about the education system. You'll need a Working With Children card.
