Moving to oz just a few questions

So we are a couple living in the UK (were in our 20s) and are looking to move September 2016.

So far we have a job (almost confirmed) although closer to the time we would know 100%.

My understanding is we need our whv (which we will apply for in January and that will mean when we enter the country in September we can work for a full year). We are going to stay with friends in Perth for 2 weeks before we head to Darwin for work for 6-12 months and in that time applying for our 2nd year.

Once we arrive we will apply for our tax numbers and bank accounts.

To my knowledge that's all we need, is there anything were missing?

How about health insurance? I can't find anything to cover us for a year :/.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Flights from Dublin for this year would be £700 for both us then the visas are £250 ish each so all in it seems about £1200 would get everything we need (except insurance) as when we head over and order our tax numbers and bank accounts that's free I believe.

I think you need to look at travel insurance not health insurance. My sister on a WHV got travel insurance from the country she's from. I got travel insurance from here so it was handier for me to put in claims, she had to wait until she went home to put a claim in. I suppose do some shopping and see which side is cheaper/handier for you, I would recommend getting at least something though.

I think you both need to have proof of substantial funds, a lot of people will tell you that they don't get asked (which is true), but if you do get stopped and asked you need to have the proof. Think it's about 3 or $5,000.

Great that you've got worked lined up, do remember that you can only work for one employer for 6 months and that there are certain types of employment that are specified which entitle you to then apply for the 2nd WHV

Yea were going for farm work which I'm told will qualify for applying for 2nd year whv.

I heard it was only $2500 each but will have to check again now. Thanks for the info (writing on 2 forums so sorry if any of you are on both lol)

No problems, whilst some of us are on our sister site, others aren't and they're valid questions which others might find useful.

Are you from Ireland? I noticed you were flying from Dublin, if you are British, the NHS has an agreement with Medicare so you dont actually need medical insurance, but if you are from Ireland you better check that the same agreement is in place, there are specialist websites that offer "backpackers" insurance, which is a combination of travel & medical insurance, google it find out more, most travel insurance doesnt cover long term so be carefull.
