Salary sacrificing?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Very excited to receive my contract in the post and read up on my new job waiting for me in Perth.

One thing I can't get my head around is a form of salary sacrificing they offer....Fringe Benefit Tax Concession for PBI Status.

Can anyone shed any light on this or simplify?! I have a meeting to discuss on starting but I'd love to get my head around now!

Thanks in advance!

basically accept it lol.

example wife works for not for profit org they do salary sacrifice.

so she sacrifices approx. $600 per fortnight towards our mortgage, this amount gets deducted from her salary before tax. This lowers her salary so she pays less tax. The $600 is then paid direct to mortgage company or back into our account by the Salary Sacrifice company tax free. so she basically gets $600 per fortnight tax free from here wages.

to simplify its a way of lowering your tax you pay to the government, all completely legal and above board.

Hi @shelz yes I'm hoping may do for rent too! Or even car finance perhaps. I know there is a cap on it around the $7k mark I think.

Yes getting v excited...5 weeks and we will be there! X

Thats great all your hard work paying off :-)

How have your family reacted with you being close to going now - mine are starting to get twitchy, and parents not really getting involved or generating any discussions about it; hard work :-/

Good luck with setting up; keep us updated on your progress :-)

Mrs Flatpack worked for the NHS in the UK and they had various salary sacrifice schemes. The problem I have with them is how come they aren't available to all taxpayers? Why should one worker get circa $14k tax free when another doesn't?

Yes you can salary sacrifice to pay your rent. You can also put some away in a holiday scheme but this has to be used within the financial year. Some can also go on a car for food purchase cinema tickets meals in restaurants etc but this has to be used within the financial year also.

Thanks for all the further feedback! Great to learn could possibly cover other items. @shelz my family are currently in France and get back 3 weeks before we go...I'm not looking forward to the goodbyes during those weeks....I am so excited for us but I'm dreading seeing what our parents will be like saying goodbye to us and worse, our little boy! My parents don't really talk about it much either, just little bits and bobs. They will support us whatever but I'm sure wish we weren't going so far! We were at a wedding yesterday on my husbands side and all his friends were so excited for us and saying what an amazing thing we are doing for our son so that definitely helps!! Got our leaving do two weeks tomorrow!
