Hello,

I am looking at different area'spossibly to live in Perth and have come to a list of 3 areas - Joondalup, Wanneroo and Rockingham.

I am now looking at school rankings for the secondary schools but becoming more confused.

For example - Ocean Reef Senior School - on the information I found was rated 50/152 schools in 2013 and then rated as 132/133 schools in 2014 - (http://bettereducation.com.au/results/WA/all.aspx ) on a different website.

Has the school really took such a dive in results in the space of one year as I though it was considered to be a really good school. I am also looking at all the secondary schools in these areas and some aren't even coming up in the results table ie. Kinross College, Warwick Senior school, Clarkson Community school, Yancep secondary school.

The best rankings I have come up with at the moment are - Belridge (48/133), Greenwood Senior School (57/133), Woodvale Secondary (63/133) - I know rankings are not everything to consider but thought i need to start somewhere :-)

Am I looking at the tables/rankings incorrectly?

Advice would be appreciated :-)

It looks to me that the rating you're looking at counts the number of really bright students. If a low school has a couple of bright students one year, it will surge, then drop back. Look at ellenbrook over the years. I would look for another measure. Isn't there a my schools site?

I will keep researching, over here the rankings tend to be maintained by the schools give or take maybe 10 places, whereas Ocean Reef have dropped over 80 places - so difficult to look at area's, schools and then unsure what area we will be working in :-/

If anyone has any thoughts on any schools in the 3 towns/cities they would be helpful :-) Joondalup, Rockingham and Wanneroo

Thanks

Hi there

It can be all very confusing when trying to rotate your life around what you think will be the best bet for your children. You might find this a bit more helpful.... http://det.wa.edu.au/schoolsandyou/detcms/navigation/your-childs-education/enrolling-in-school/like it has been said... you only need a few kids to do well in the ATAR/WACE and it can push the school up the ladder ... it is all very manipulated by how scoring is done here... they seem to be able to add on or deduct scores depending on the previous years results... l have given you a general link so you will need to navigate around it to find out about schools etc and what they are offering rather than what their score line. l do know that there is a lot of people moving into catchment area's for schools as they very seldom take people outside the catchment areas due to popular demand. Especially if they offer Gifted and Talented courses or School Based Extended Classes.

I will keep researching, over here the rankings tend to be maintained by the schools give or take maybe 10 places, whereas Ocean Reef have dropped over 80 places - so difficult to look at area's, schools and then unsure what area we will be working in :-/
