Degree qualified Engineer (mechanical/ automotive) can't find work. Help!

Hi, I'm a degree qualified Engineer with 5 years experience in the heavy duty diesel industry working for Delphi. My roles were mainly development and test where I handled huge amounts of measurement data to find trends faults etc. I was also involved in designing and building the test rigs.

I can also machine and weld to a basic level, fabricate and design. Mechanics is also a hobby of mine so i'm pretty capable with most things with an engine. Spray painting and basic carpentry I can do too.

I like to think i'm a pretty useful bloke but I'm literally drawing blanks with everything!

I've applied to mining jobs, Cummins, boat services but still no joy.

If anyone out there knows someone or has some good advice I'm very eager to hear it.

Been here about a month now. I would actually be happy doing some handy man stuff on my own and a bit of buying and selling but I don't think I can on a 417. My partner has been offered sponsorship but that's a few months down the line yet!

Your visa class is one of your major issues. Employers are not going to offer a permanent job to someone that can only work for them for 6 months.

Yeah it's one of those situations where the only skilled jobs are permy / long term so they don't want to take me on even though they're the only ones with the ability to sponsor me (whether I need it or not) to stay. It's very annoying. I don't even mind being a temp if it was offered because I know they would want to keep me on
