Chanonica
Bizarre question I know, but I don't want to waste suitcase space bringing all my thick woolly ones if they're not needed.
SJT
This might sound mad, but for the first year you will not wear them, the second year you will wear them more and by your third winter, nearly every day, depending on what you do. Whne we first arrived it was the middle of July and the shops were full of winter boots, coats, scarves and gloves, and I laughed. This is my third winter here and I'm not laughing any more. Even though it does not get as cold as the UK, you soon find a 20 degree day has a chill to it. So if you have room bring them, but only if you plan on staying long term. verystormy
Night time temps at the moment are in the single figures and away from the coast it can get cold by any bodies standard - I am at work 500km east of Perth and was scraping ice of my car this morning. Day time temps in Perth are in the teens.

Chanonica
Thanks so much for your replies, I don't feel so daft asking it now. We land end of July so our suitcases are more geared towards the spring that's ahead of us than the winter we land in. We've lived in Scotland the last 5 years so I've a serious collection of woolly tights..we'll probably think we've walked into a sauna when we get off the plane while everyone else is wrapped up warm haha. Give me a break!
I've never worn tights thick or otherwise to be honest. If it's cold enough for tights then I'd whack on a pair of jeans or leggings. I do wish I'd brought my winter boots though, I had some lovely ones tha went to the charity shop. Do you find it ever cold enough for one or is a cardigan enough? Thanks.
Give me a break!
It's really difficult advising on that you know. I remember asking the same. We arrived 5 years ago on the 1st of July, the weather was very similar to the weather at the moment. 18-19c in the day 7-8-9c at night. We were walking around in the day in shorts and shirts whilst everyone else was dressed like an artic winter. Two years on from that we too were dressed like we were about to approach the artic circle I'd say bring a couple of coats your Autumn type ones rather than thick winter ones and a few cardies/fleeces etc. The winter will literally only last 6-10 weeks maximum, then it's shorts and tshirts the rest of the year. homebythesea
For a suitcase ... Lots of layers and maybe one pair of woolie tights and one coat, if your shipping - bring the lot ! Some good advice given above

This is our first winter here after 10 years in Scotland and there are days when I've been more cold than I ever was in the UK! You know how 22 degrees is a heat wave in Scotland? Well, the reverse is the same....14 deg during the day is cold. I feel ridiculous but I often wear my long North Face coat even though it's about 16 deg. I'm also wearing more jumpers than I would have in the UK....no central heating.
caboodles
Me too just arrived from UK Manchester .... And I have had tights on !!! It's warm outside than it is in the house !!
Chanonica
Thank you all for your replies, we finally arrived here last Sunday and it is bitter cold! I'm so glad I brought my collection of tights and slipper socks...I'm fully clothed wearing my dressing gown right now. Haha Caboodles, it really is warmer outside than inside. Hubby and son were calling me to sit outside with them, I thought they were mad but it was lovely. Its funny seeing on Facebook our friends in Scotland dressed the same as us (jeans, boots, jumpers and coats) but they're in Summer! Does it suddenly turn warm coming into Spring or is it really gradual right up to Summer?
Lou8670
It starts to warm up in September...average temperatures during the day low 20's but the nights are warmer...I don't remember being cold at night last September which was out first here. By October/ November it'll be beautiful and you'll live in shorts, t-shirt and flip-flops. By the time summer arrives you'll be wishing winter back again...especially when it goes over 40 and doesn't go much below high 20's at night time [emoji33]
