OnOurWay
I found applying for jobs from the UK was a complete waste of time. However, as soon as I arrived I found something. My wife found a job from the UK easily. So I guess it just depends what you do. I have that in general applying for jobs here isn't very fruitful. Find a list of companies that you think you have the skills to work for and start talking to them.Just my tupence worth, others may disagree. stevenrosenthall
Hi Jomaniura, I'm kind of in the same situation but I'm in the oil and gas industry. The feedback I have is you really need to be in the country to have the best chance of employment. I know this is a very big risk for most people so, I'm in the fortunate situation where I have a place to stay initially and I don't have a family to think about. I've decided just to go for it and hopefully the risk turns into a reward. Good luck whatever you decide to do.
Weedolly
Do you mean you only have 6 months left to validate? Why don't you come for a couple of weeks and buy yourself a lot more time Edited July 20, 2015 by Weedolly
Laz
You'll be lucky to get a job if you're already here let alone while you are still in the UK! Unless your CV is amazing and no one else is likely to have skills and experience in the same league. Its VERY competitive in the market right now... Lou8670
Employers here really aren't interested in you until they know you're in the country...unless of course you know someone who knows someone who's willing to give you a job. Even when you're here you've got to network as a lot of jobs go through word of mouth. Great advice ^^^ re Linked In. They're really big on it here. You also need to Australianise your resume if you haven't already! Is there any way you can come over for a holiday and line up interviews with agents? Quite a few people on here have managed to secure work that way then popped home to pack up the family returning within the month to start work. Do you have any example sites with guides for Australian type CVS? I'm Australian, but it's been awhile since I've applied for a job, UK or Australia. I'm Australian, but it's been awhile since I've applied for a job, UK or Australia. I'm pretty sure that Australian CVs are no different to UK CVs. I recently looked up CVs on Google and changed mine to a more up to date version.
Lou8670
Theres some great advice on Seek. Lots of employers now want to see a skills based resume, where you match your skills to the role, rather than a chronological resume. http://www.seek.com.au/career-advice/resume-cv

Most of the roles I've filled in the past few months required someone to start within 1-2 weeks. Ideally you would have to be here and available for an immediate interview to be considered in the current market. Things have changed since the mining downturn. It's an employers market. There are many good people to choose from who are available right away. On a brighter note, I'm happy to take a look at your resume and advise you on any suitable roles. I'll send you a pm with my email address.

verystormy
Perth has never been great for IT companies - the majority of IT work is in the east. I have worked for some of the biggest companies in WA, but there IT depts are in the east. Be aware though, that the down turn hitting WA is now starting to show weakness in the east as well
