Millie1978
Hi guys, So as most of you know we were granted our 189visa at beginning of July. For the past 2 years of waiting to get this visa we have always been for Perth. Now we actually have the visa an opportunity for my husband has become available in Sydney. He is a carpenter by trade and at the minute the work is endless for his trade in Sydney as the whole city is practically having a face lift. He has got in with a company who is promised years if work. Question is if he decides to give Perth a go is the work going to be guaranteed? We keep hearing carpentry work is slowing up in Perth due to the fact many rentals are vacant so not much need for new housing? plus this whole recession talk especially after the mines have slowed up. we have two little boys coming to. My husband is going out to oz either Sydney or Perth beginning of sept, and we have until end of March to validate our visas so will follow him out. I think for schools maybe Perth would be better? Advice welcome!! our heads are done in from the past two years and now another decision to make. Would love to hear of anyone In our situation and advice from any tradies out there xxxxxx
LoopyLauren
Tough choices. I have been to both and spent about 3/12 s living and working in Sydney, it is fab. I whizzed through Perth and I can barely remember it now. I hope you come to a decision you are happy with xx
Lou8670
Take a deep breath because you're actually about to get on the roller coaster...up until now you've just been in the queue [emoji38] The raft of decisions you're going to have to make are going to be tough ones! Sydney or Perth, then which area, which schools..... Where takes your fancy but where is more practical for your family. Then questioning if you've made the right decisions and what if you'd made different choices! You might not have had a problem making decisions before but may find yourself doubting every decision you make from now on because they are life changing and once made will be tough to change... If your husband has a firm offer of employment in Sydney then I think should seriously consider the east coast. Do your research! Sydney is very different to WA and the property market there has gone mad recently. Good luck with whatever you decide! Perhaps have w look at Poms in Oz and ask questions about Sydney on there. Shaz
I agree with Lou on the point about your husband's employment. If it is confirmed offer then, you should not even hesitate. Dont get confused, just think of it as an adventure. Trust me that was my attitude and I felt ready for any challenge. Perth housing market is slow at the moment, building especially. Children are young they will adjust fine. In any case six months in any place gives you an idea, if you are happy to call it a home or not. No doubt Perth is better place overall, weather wise and quality of life for young family. Trust your own instincts and you will be fine. Lynseylou
I would agree with the others and say go where the job offer is. Sydney and the surrounding areas are beautiful and there is plenty to do, but it is a lot busier. My husband is also a carpenter and we are currently in visa process for me, as he is Australian. His immediate family are all on the East coast but he has cousins in the West. We have spent some time in WA but lived in Sydney for a year. Housing is more expensive in the east but probably earning potential as a joiner is higher due to demand. There are lots of good areas. His family are in Camden/Bowral/ Elanora Heights and Wollongong and we have friends and family in Sutherland shire. It will all come down to budget and job location. Hope that helps. Pm me if you want more info on locations as my in laws came back from East coast last Monday. Hope this helps
FOL
I wouldn't listen too much to the "we promise you years of work", that's a salesman talking. But hey at least you have relatively certainty for next year.
