I lived in oz 16 years now have Australian citizenship but been living back in the UK for last 2 years been dating someone a year and a half .

We are wanting to move back to Auststralia should I go back to oz on my own if so how long before he can follow as both need to work or do we apply for visa while both in the UK.

any advice would be great .

We did this last year. Think that you will need to prove that you have been living together for more than 6 months, will need to show proof of this and get people to make statements on your behalf that you are a couple etc. Think that it would look better if you stay together. It took us over 8 months from applying to getting visa. If your other half is under 30 they could apply for a working holiday visa, which is much quicker. Good luck. Jo

It is slightly quicker to get the visa while in the UK. Also, in Oz, he would go onto a bridging visa once the visa application was in. However, the bridging visa would probably not have work rights and it could take 18 months to 2 years to process.

You need to start building up evidence of the relationship to give to immi - things like joint rent, joint bills, bills in each others names for the same address.
